MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines holds many a world record, and here are just two of them: second in the most number of international beauty pageant crowns and first in the most number of Congress Deputy Speakers.
To quote an old tourism mantra: It’s more fun in the Philippines!
WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Every so often, Webster’s adds a new entry to its dictionaries and announces the new word towards the end of the year.
That time has come. Webster’s announced its new word for 2020: Trumpette.
It is a noun that refers to blind supporters of Donald Trump who, against all odds, continue to be in denial that he has lost the 2020 U.S. Presidential elections and support their idol’s craziness come hell or high water.
Be sure to add the new word to your everyday vocabulary, and be sure to distinguish the word from the existing “trumpet” which refers to the musical instrument.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Be careful what you wish for.
Moments after Pinoy Ako Blog’s Jover Laurio tweeted that Tatay (President Rodrigo Duterte) wasn’t included in PeopleAsia magazine’s 2020-21 “People of the Year” list because he would be under the “Animal of the Year” category, she received a surprising word from the international Safari magazine.
Laurio was named the magazine’s “Animal of the Year,” besting dozens of animals in the shortlist, and sharing the honor with the hippopotamus.
It was a dream come true for Laurio, who after being once named “Person of the Year” by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, had been aspiring year after year to be honored by an international magazine, just like her idol Maria Ressa.
