In The Philippines, Carabaos, Senators Kneel! (Video)

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Every year, on a day in the month of May, the town of Pulilan, Bulacan in the Phlippines, celerates the Kneeling Carabao Festival, during which carabaos are paraded in the streets and made to kneel in front of the church. It is definitely a sight to behold.

But it is not only carabaos that kneel in the Philippines. Even senators do.

Case in point: Senator Bato de la Rosa knelt in front of witness cops, begging them tell the truth during a Senate hearing.

It’s not power-tripping,” the senator said.

Did he just trip off his chair then?

Baguio City: The St. Bernard Barks At The Beagle!

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau )- The lion’s head is to Kennon Road. Ferdinand E. Marcos’ bust is to Marcos Highway (well, before it was defaced and taken down). So what greets motorists as they traverse the third major entry point to Baguio City — Naguilian Road?

Wait, what? A beagle?

You heard that right. Motorists have begun to notice this imposing, stone-carved head of a beagle. Why the beagle? Your guess is as good as ours.

But the bigger story is that St. Bernard, that giant of a dog that delights visitors to the city’s Mines View Park is barking at the Naguilian statue.

More than anything else, Baguio residents say that St. Bernard is more relevant and representative of the summer capital of the Philippines because it has been a mainstay at amusement parks and during public events at Session Road and other parts of the city.

St. Bernard, through its lawyer-owner, is now preparing a petition to the local court to issue a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the public roadside display of the long-eared creature.
