WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – A little-known Republican senator from Oklahoma, James Lankford, told his colleagues that men like him have the right choose whether or not women should have an abortion.

He made the statement during Monday’s senate floor debate on the proposal to defund Planned Parenthood which ended up being rejected in the subsequent vote.

Lankford  argued on that he had the right to lecture women about whether or not they should get abortions because he had impregnated his wife and “had something to do with the birth.”

Lankford’s argument resonated well with Republicans and Tea Party members, as well as religious conservatives who hailed the senator as the new hero for men’s rights. Several of the Republican candidates for president have also taken notice of Lankford and are seriously considering him to be their vice presidential running mate.

“I admire his courage, but most especially his logic on this highly-sensitive issue,” Senator Ted Cruz said.

In Makati, free birthday cakes for its senior citizens

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Vice President Jejomar Binay criticized Mar Roxas for remaining in his position as Secretary of Interior and Local Governments after he had officially declared his candidacy for president of the Philippines in 2016. Roxas is President NoyNoy Aquino’s anointed successor.

“Common sense should tell Roxas that it would be inappropriate if not illegal for a cabinet official to remain in his appointed position while campaigning for political office,” Binay said. “Who knows if government funds are being used for the political campaign?”

“Roxas cannot have his cake and eat it too ” Binay told reporters.

“If he wants his cake, he can live in Makati City where the local government gives away free cake to its senior citizens during their birthdays.”

Roxas could not be immediately reached for comment.

HISTORICAL: TWO SAME-SEX COUPLES ARE THE FIRST TO BE LEGALLY MARRIED IN THE PHILIPPINES

35968-250x250-Gayrings2MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – History was made yesterday when two same-sex couples were officially married at Manila’s City Hall in the Philippines, a country whose population is 80% Catholic.

Maria Arlyn Ibanez and her partner Joanne Reena Gregorio joined Pastor Crescencio Agbayani and his partner Marlon Pelipe in trooping to a civil registry office in Manila, to obtain a marriage license. “We expected it would be denied but we tried it anyway…. We thought maybe there would be a miracle and it would be approved,” Ibanez, a 33-year-old call centre worker, told Agence France-Presse.

Well a miracle did happen.

To the couples’ surprise, they were promptly issued a marriage license by the city hall clerk.

Apparently, the clerk got a little confused and thought that Ibanez was marrying Agbayani and Gregorio was marrying Pelipe.  She did not notice that the license applications were for a male couple and a female couple, respectively.

Despite the error, the two same-sex couples remain legally married because divorce is not allowed in the Philippines.

The Philippines is the only remaining country (outside of The Vatican) in the world where divorce is still illegal.
