MIRROR, MIRROR, WHO’S THE MOST GOOD-LOOKING OF THEM ALL?

Capture
From top left, clockwise: Canada, Bhutan, United States, Estonia, Mexico, Congo

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – There are close to two hundred heads of state throughout the world — from presidents, to prime ministers, to kings and queens, to,  yes, the pope.

But who’s the most good-looking of them all?

For this Adobo Chronicles poll, we’re focusing on the male heads of state (the women will be in a  separate future poll).

We’ve narrowed down the list to the top six, and we’d like your opinion by voting in our poll.

The candidates:

  1. Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, King of Bhutan
  2. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada
  3. Joseph Kabila, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo
  4. Taavi Roivas, Prime Minister of Estonia
  5. Enrique Peña Nieto, President of Mexico
  6. Barack Obama, President of the United States.

CITING CANCER LINK, USDA BANS CURED BACON

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Imagine breakfast without bacon. Now you don’t have to. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has banned the production and sale of cured bacon in the country because of its link to cancer.

Bacon is either cured or uncured while all bacon is soaked in brine to give it flavor and prevent botulism. It is traditionally cured using a mixture of salt, water and synthetic sodium nitrite that acts as a preservative and made by mixing Nitrates, a naturally occurring compound in plants, with certain bacteria.

The USDA ban does not cover uncured bacon. Uncured bacon uses natural nitrates found in juice, sea salt and celery powder to achieve a similar taste, so uncured bacon does not have potentially harmful chemicals akin to sodium nitrite.

Soon after the  surprising USDA announcement, the National Association of American Chefs (NAAC) filed papers in court seeking an injunction to stop USDA from implementing the ban.

“This will end the culinary career,” a spokesperson for NAAC said. “Bacon is to hotels and restaurants just like butter is to Julia Child and Paula Deen!”

Consumers nationwide are joining the NAAC in supporting the injunction.

In fact, a million march is being planned in Washington, D.C. the Sunday before Thanksgiving to demand the reinstatement of cured bacon as the beloved miracle ingredient in home cooking and holiday meals.

Meanwhile, big box stores like Costco and large supermaket chains like Safeway have reported that their freezers have practically been emptied in the last 24 hours by customers panicking about the soon-to-disappear cured bacon.

A DISTURBING PATTERN FOR PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTS

TRIO
L-R: Estrada, Arroyo, Aquino

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The two Philippine presidents before this current administration both faced jail time, and  NoyNoy Aquino seems headed the same path as his predecessors.

Joseph Estrada was jailed for plunder but was subsequently released by his successor, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who herself is in hospital arrest for charges of  electoral sabotage and misuse of lottery funds.

On Wednesday,  Aquino said that if necessary, he is willing to be put in jail for the decisions he made during his term.

Asked about his opinion on threats by his critics to charge and arrest him for the implementation of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), parts of which were declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court,  Aquino said that going to jail will be a “necessary consequence.”

(Update:  President Aquino was accused yesterday before the Office of the Ombudsman of illegal use of public funds through DAP and PDAF).

Because of this consistent pattern with the Office of the President, lawmakers are gearing up for a charter change (locally known as ‘cha-cha’) that would amend the qualifications for the presidency. In addition to citizenship, residency and age qualifications, the lawmakers want every candidate for president to be “able and willing” to go to jail after his or her term of office. A few senators are even proposing that the elected president should not be immune from lawsuit during his or her term.
