Malacañang To Metro Manila Commuters: Try Riding Tricycles Instead

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Following massive, persistent problems being encountered by the Metro Rail Transit (MRT), Malacañang on Thursday urged Metro Manila commuters to try other modes of transportation — like tricycles.

“Yung MRT lang ba ang puwedeng sakyan doon sa mga rutang dinadaanan nito? Baka naman puwedeng matuklasan yung iba pang mga options,” Presidential Communications Operations Office head Herminio Coloma Jr. said during a press briefing. (Is the MRT the only means of transportation to your destination? Perhaps you can try to discover other options.)

The Aquino administration specifically encouraged commuters to try riding tricycles which abound in Metro Manila.  “These motorized pedicabs have been a very reliable mode of transportation in the Philippines for generations,” Coloma said.

No more long lines.  No more waiting. No more delays. No more accidents.

President Aquino Rumored To Have Left Malacañang For Exile In Hawaii

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau)  – The rumor mill has been running nonstop in the last week or so in the Philippines, fueled by the eerie silence of President NoyNoy Aquino over two significant national developments in his country — the massacre of farmers in Kidapawan seeking food from the government and the tragedy in Basilan where 18 soldiers were killed in an encounter with the rebel forces.

The latest rumor is that Aquino has left Malacañang (the presidential palace) and is enroute to Hawaii for a self-imposed exile.  It seems like a repeat of the Marcos family exile to Honolulu after the late president was deposed by the People Power revolution.

Aquino may himself have given the clue about his exile when he told a group of women in media last week, after a state luncheon for visiting Prince Albert II of Monaco, that he has “started packing.”

Aquino’s 6-year-term ends at noon on June 30 when the new president to be elected on May 9, takes office.

Pundits have speculated that Aquino chose exile to escape possible charges and imprisonment for plunder, graft and corruption resulting from fund scandals during his administration.

Ironically, Aquino is will reportedly stay in the same house on Makiki Heights Drive in Honolulu, occupied by the Marcoses during their Hawaii exile.

Filipinos Very Confused About The May 9 Presidential Elections

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In the U.S., voters are confused about how delegates are awarded to the presidential candidates in the country’s state primaries, caucuses and conventions.  In the Philippines, voters are very confused. Period.

Earlier, we reported that overseas Filipino voters have complained that they do not recognize two candidates in the official election ballot:  Mar Roxas Daang Matuwid for president and Leni Robredo Daang Matuwid for vice president. They don’t recall the Daang Matuwids ever filing their certificates of candidacy before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

Now, Filipinos participating in the 7-Eleven presidential poll in which soda buyers can vote by picking the cup bearing the name and image of their candidates of choice, are complaining as well.

The latest total results show that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is leading in individual 7-Eleven stores as well as all stores combined, by a very wide margin: 58% compared to the runner-up at 14%.

But voters are confused as to who the runner-up in the poll is.  His/her name is Undecided.  And just like with the Daang Matuwids, Filipinos don’t remember Undecided filing a certificate of candidacy.

The COMELEC has a lot of explaining to do these days.
