Churches To Play Handel’s ‘Halleluja’ In Lieu Of Tolling Of Bells

IMG_4913.JPGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was just days ago when Catholic Churches across the country were urged by the bishops to toll their bells each night as a reminder of those who have been killed under the government’s war on drugs.  Many believed it was the Church’s subtle way of criticizing President Rodrigo Duterte.

Now, the Catholic Church is singing a different tune — literally.

It has rescinded its order to parishes to ring their bells.  Instead, George Friderick Handel’s ‘Halleluja‘ will be played each night over church sound systems in celebration of the government rescue of Marawi priest Fr. Chito Soganub.

Fr. Soganub was among those who were held hostage by the Maute rebels in their continuing siege of Marawi City.

See, the Catholic Church can be pro-Duterte if it wants to.

Malacañang To Provide Free Umbrellas To September 21 Rallyists

IMG_4910.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Once again, Rodrigo Duterte is proving that he is the president of ALL Filipinos, the Yellows included.

Duterte not only encouraged Filipinos to protest and burn his effigy on September 21, he also declared a holiday for schools and government offices so that people can either participate in the protests or stay at home and not be bothered by traffic.

Today, Duterte went further by announcing that Malacañang will provide free umbrellas (see photo) to all who plan to participate in the Yellow rally at Luneta Park.

Duterte’s announcement came after PAGASA confirmed that September 21 will be marked by severe thunderstorms in Metro Manila.

What a loving, caring and equal-opportunity president we have!

Malacañang Disputes 7-Year Term Of CHR’s Chito Gascon

IMG_4835.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Ever since the House of Representatives approved a P1,000 budget for the Commission on Human Rights, questions have arisen on whether the agency is truly a constitutional body as well as on the 7-year term of its commissioners.

A supposed copy of an Executive Order issued by then President Corazon Aquino seems to indicate that the CHR was created/confirmed through the EO, and that a subsequent addendum to the order clarified that the commissioners serve “at the pleasure of the President.”

The Adobo Chronicles could not independently confirm the authenticity of the EO or the addendum, and so we asked Malacañang for comment.

In response, PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar denied that the CHR Chair or commissioners “serve at the pleasure of the President.”

On the contrary, Andanar said:

“The commissioners, especially the current chair Chito Gascon, actually serve at the DISPLEASURE of the President.”

We can certainly understand that.
