OVP Justifies P5OK Doleout To Fishermen Involved In Maritime Incident

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) –  Leni Robredo is being criticized for handing out P50,000 each to the 22 fishermen involved in the recent maritime incident in the West Philippine Sea. Was it a dole out, a PR stunt or a genuine gesture under the Vice President’s anti-poverty program, Angat Buhay?

In a hastily-called press conference, complete with merienda (snacks), the Office of the Vice President (OVP) justified the cash outlay.

”You see, Angat Buhay is Vice President’s flagship program. The cash gifts to the fishermen falls under the program because the incident involved a ship with a (Chinese) flag,” an OVP a spokespersom told reporters.

Meanwhile, the OVP is also considering reimbursing online news source Rappler for the Disney-type animation video it produced in the early hours following the maritime incident.

BREAKING: Philippines Senator Risa Hontiveros Denied Entry Into Macau, China

HONG KONG, China (The Adobo Chronicles, Hong Kong Bureau) – First, it was former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales who was held by Chinese Immigration authorities as she tried to enter Hong Kong.  Then, former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario suffered the same fate.

The two ex-Philippine officials under the NoyNoy Aquino administration co-signed a complaint against Chinese President Xi Jinping before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity in connection with China’s activities to gain control over most of the South China Sea.

Now, The Adobo Chronicles has learned that Senator Risa Hontiveros is being held by Immigration authorities as she arrived in Macau for a much-needed vacation.

A Macau Immigration official said Hontiveros was stopped from entering the city, which, like Hong Kong , is part of China, for being a persona non grata. The charge arose from the Opposition Senator’s public statement relating to the maritime incident in the West Philippine Sea between a Philippine fishing boat and a Chinese vessel.

In her statement, she criticized a planned joint investigation of the incident by the Philippine and Chinese governments, calling the outcome as “lutong Macau.”

Lutong Macau” is a old (offensive, racist) Filipino expression that means something was rigged.

Robredo To Set Sail With Fishermen Involved In Reed Bank Incident

OCCIDENTAL MINDORO, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Davao Bureau) –  Philippines Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday went to Occidental Mindoro to meet and hold a dialogue with the 22-member crew of F/B Gem-Ver 1 who were on board the fishing boat that capsized after it was hit by a Chinese vessel in the West Philippine Sea on June 9.

During the meeting, Robredo —proving once and for all that her heart is with those in the laylayan —promised to set sail with the fishermen on their next fishing expedition to the West Philippine Sea.

”I will be there with you to defend you against Chinese aggression and to stand up for our territorial rights,” she told the fishermen.

Many politicians, including President Rodrigo Duterte and members of the defeated Otso Diretso Senatorial slate, have promised or attempted to jet ski to disputed territory. None of the plans have materialized.

Will Robredo be the first to make good on all the rhetoric and fulfill her promise to the fishermen?
