Senator Leila De Lima To Host TV Talk Show On ABS-CBN

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Move over, Winnie Monsod and ‘Bawal ang Pasaway.’ Here comes ‘Hindi Bawal ang Pasaway with Leila de Lima.’

If the Senator can tweet and send out handwritten dispatches from her jail cell, she surely can host her own political talk show, thanks to the generosity of ABS-CBN, the rival TV Network of GMA which hosts Monsod’s show.

De Lima’s show airs beginning October 15 and will be broadcast live each week from inside the PNP detention center in Quezon City.

A spokesperson for ABS-CBN told The Adobo Chronicles that De Lima  will discuss a wide variety of topics, mostly focusing on criticism for the Duterte Administration. For the premier episode of her talk show, De Lima has invited Rappler CEO Maria Ressa as special guest.

She will also talk via skype with U.S. Senators Patrick Leahy and Richard Durbin who authored a Senate committee resolution urging the U.S. government to bar the entry of Philippine officials that had a hand in jailing De Lima.

Philippine President Duterte Graces GQ Magazine Cover

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – He’s been vilified, insulted, even cursed by his critics for wearing a loose necktie during his recent meeting  with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the news media called him “unkempt.”

But fashion gurus at GQ magazine think otherwise. They actually complimented Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte for his forward-looking fashion sense and rated him No. 1 among the world’s best-dressed men.

Duterte graces the cover of the upcoming issue of GQ magazine.

When reached by The Adobo Chronicles for comment, Duterte said he wasn’t really making a fashion statement. “I just wear what is comfortable.”

Senator Grace Poe’s Latest Solution To The EDSA Traffic

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As chair of the Senate Committee on Public Services, Grace Poe has a lot of brilliant ideas to bring about a permanent solution to the nightmarish traffic on EDSA, Metro Manila’s longest and most congested main thoroughfare.

First, she suggested the construction of elevated pedestrian walkways so that Filipinos can walk about 16 kilometers (9.9 miles) from Quezon City to Makati instead of riding crowded buses and trains. “It’s good for their health,” she said.

Then, she proposed that MRT, the light railway train system, designate some of their coaches as “business coaches” to encourage the filthy rich to  ride the train instead of driving their luxury cars and vans.

Now, Poe has unveiled a third proposal — the construction of cable cars along the entire stretch of EDSA as a viable, sky-high alternative to cars, buses or trains.

The lady Senator seems to be in Cloud 9 these days.
