Duterte APPOINTS ROBREDO TO HEAD NEW COMMISSION!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – For the third time in four years, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is appointing Vice President Leni Robredo to head a Cabinet-level Commission which he created through a new Executive Order.

Robredo had been previously appointed as Housing and Drug Czar but neither of those worked out.

Duterte believes in third chances, so he has again tapped Robredo to head the new Professional Regla Commission that will oversee the rights and privileges of Filipino citizens who have reached the age of menopause (regla).

In issuing the Executive Order, Duterte said it is about time that the government address discrimination faced by menopaused women in employment, education and social services. “Robredo’s passion and experience in the area of menopause are perfect for the position. She fully understands the trials and tribulations experienced by Filipino women in their somethings,” Duterte said.

Congratulations to the Vice President!

ADOBO CHRONICLES ‘OTHER WOMAN OF THE YEAR’ : leni robredo

SAN JOSE, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Jose Bureau) – It’s that time of year when The Adobo Chronicles picks its “Woman of the Year” to recognize that one person who has had the most impact on local and international news headlines and developments.

Our choice was easy. Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo has had an unprecedented presence in the news headlines this year, thanks to her well-oiled press and social media machinery, spouting criticism on almost anything and everything about the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte. She did it in such bilingual audacity, making her sameness with both the masses and the social elite a true cosmetic wonder.

But because she is not the first Filipino woman to be given a similar honor, we chose to name her something that would be exclusive to her: “The Other Woman of the Year.”

In 1986, former President Corazon Aquino became the first Filipino to become TIME’s Person of the Year. In 2018, Maria Ressa was included in Time’s Person of the Year 2018, as one of “The Guardians”, a number of journalists from around the world combating the “War on Truth”.

We congratulate La Leni, our 2020 Other Woman of the Year!

Senator Risa Hontiveros Proposes Gender-Neutral Reference For Philippine Citizens

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Americans are called Americans, regardless of gender. Similarly, Germans, Chinese, Japanese, French are called what they are, male or female.

But citizens of the Philippines who are male are called Filipinos, and those who are female, Filipinas.

That’s going to change soon.

Senator Risa Hontiveros has filed a bill that would change the way Philippine citizens are referred to.  And it will be gender-neutral.

Hontiveros, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women, Family Relations and Gender Equality is proposing that citizens of the Philippines, regardless of gender,  be called Filipinish.

Sort of like the English. Or Swedish. Or Irish.
