Donald Trump Tries To Win Back Hispanic Vote, Eats A Bowl Of Tacos

image.jpegNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Just a day after both his remaining rivals for the Republican presidential nomination quit the race, Donald Trump wasted no time in trying to win back the Hispanic vote — a crucial voting bloc that would greatly matter in the general elections.

Many will recall that when Trump launched his presidential bid, he promised to build a great wall along the U.S. southern border with Mexico.  In his campaign launch speech, he also called Mexicans “rapists” and “criminals.”

But realizing he can’t win in the general elections without the Hispanic vote, Trump spent his lunch time on Cinco de Mayo eating a bowl of tacos.  In a post on his social media account, he said that he “loves Hispanics.”

Sources close to Trump, however, and who spoke on condition of anonimity, said that immediately after the photo opp, Trump ordered a Mexican server at the penthouse suite of his Trump Towers in New York to remove the bowl of tacos and replace it with a half-pound New York steak, complete with garlic and butter mashed potatoes and steamed asparagus.

The Adobo Chronicles confirmed that Trump’s steak was medium-rare.

Philippines Aiming For Guinness Record As SPAM Capital Of The World

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines already holds the record of social media capital and selfie capital of the world, and now it is aiming for yet another Guinness honor — that of SPAM capital of the world.

Filipinos are using social media platforms 53 hours a week. That’s a whole 11 hours more than the global average of 42 hours according to a global study.

Now, Filipinos want to be recognized for SPAM, not the annoying, unsolicited mail or posts one gets on email or social media accounts.  Rather, the canned SPAM meat manufactured by Hormel Foods.

Right now, the U.S. territory of Guam is recognized as the SPAM capital of the world, followed by the state of Hawaii (thanks to the enormous popularity of SPAM sushi).  The Philippines is unofficially in third place.  Filipinos want their SPAM for breakfast (with fried rice and eggs) and as special food fare when they have visitors.

So,  might as well aim to be No. 1 in SPAM consumption, right?

In order to achieve this honor, the Philippines’ Department of Tourism and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) have launched a joint program to encourage overseas Filipinos, especially those in the United States, to double or triple their SPAM shipment via Balikbayan boxes to their relatives in the Philippines.

“If each overseas Filipino worker sends at least a case of SPAM to their Filipino relatives twice a year, we can easily break Guam’s and Hawaii’s records,” the POEA said.

Oh, and make that SPAM Tocino, please!

Sign From Heaven? Filipinos Flock To Jollibee After Sky Phonomenon Over Manila

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipinos are known to be devout Catholics and they look to the sky for divine intervention.

On a clear, warm Sunday, as people were coming out of church services, a sign from the heavens appeared in the sky over most of Metro Manila.

It was a cloud formation never before seen anywhere in the world — that of a chicken leg, presumably fried chicken leg.

imageThat was enough to create a mad rush to Jollibee restaurants across the metropolis, and by 10 a.m., every single Jollibee’s was sold out of the Chicken Joy.

But unknown to many, something had terribly gone wrong.  The “miracle” was actually a promo gimmick by McDonald’s, which paid hundreds of thousands of pesos to rent a plane that would release a smoke formation resembling a chicken leg.

Jollibee’s, McDonald’s number one competitor in the fried chicken business in the Philippines, was truly blessed with free advertising!
