Bruno Mars Accuses Seren Sensei Of Cultural Misrepresentation

E91F0890-38B6-4A20-B0C1-9E792E2A3F10HONOLULU, Hawaii (The Adobo Chronicles, Honolulu Bureau) – Singer Bruno Mars is finally breaking his silence after black writer Seren Sensei accused him of cultural appropriation.

Sensei’s comment was made during an online panel discussion on black music. She said Mars was a karaoke and wedding singer.

Today, The Adobo Chronicles caught up with Mars at the Hilton Hawaiian Village where the singer is taking a much-needed R&R from his very busy and successful show business career.

”I leave it to the experts to decide about cultural appropriation,” Mars said.  “However, I think Sensei, with a name like that, is guilty of cultural misrepresentation. She’s no Japanese nor a teacher, so taking on the name all but amounts to fakery and opportunism.”11ECB644-082B-4C30-AC02-6E9C6013526C

Mars was born in Hawaii, to a Puerto Rican father and a Filipina mother.

Multicultural appropriator would have been more appropriate to describe him.  But even that does not do justice to his sheer talent.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Singer Bruno Mars was the subject of heated Twitter disccussions this weekend, after he was accused of ‘cultural appropriation.’

Mars, who is half-Filipino, came under fire as part of an online roundtable discussion which saw writer Seren Sensei hit out at Mars — like sour grapes —for appropriating black music.

Sensei’s comments didn’t sit well with Filipinos so they are standing up for their kababayan (countryman).

This Sunday, one million Filipinos are expected to march on EDSA to show their support for Mars.

’We want to show to the world that Filipinos are not just great karaoke singers (which Sensei accused Mars of being), but that we are proud of our culture and will not allow anyone to insult us or someone of our own,’ a march spokesperson said.

The marchers plan to burn a giant effigy of Sensei.

EDSA is Metropolitan Manila’s main thoroughfare that has been the venue of massive protests, including that which ousted the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Sara Duterte, Whang-od Rebut PNP, DND Decision To Keep Tattoo BanRebutt

E62DF084-9E3C-469F-A918-E0F20AF1272EMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Both the Department of National Defense and the Philippine National Police have opposed the lifting of “no tattoo” rule for potential recruits.

“Any good reason why we will lift it? We would like to keep it that way…The military imposes strict rules on haircut and even mustache, why not tattoo? Tattoos are ugly and connotes gangster image,” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said Monday.

Upon hearing of Lorenzana’s comments, Presidential daughter Sara Duterte, speaking from China; and Whang-0d, the last remaining mambabatok (tattoo artist), speaking from Sagada both said:

”Do I look like a ganster?”

Enough said.
