Google Unveils New Phone To Counter Huawei

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Jose Bureau) – U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent assault on Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei is getting big boost from American tech giant Google, but all in fair competition.

Google is about to unveil its latest phone that will be the company’s answer to Huawei’s newest product in the market —the Y9 Prime 2019 phone.

The Y9 was launched on May 13, 2019. It comes with a 6.59-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 2340 pixels at a PPI of 391 pixels per inch.
Google says its new phone will be smarter, faster and more attractive than Huawei’s Y9.
More importantly, Google is naming  its phone HAWAII.
Is this another direct assault on the Chinese company, or an attempt to confuse and dupe smartphone customers?  Huawei. Hawaii.

Adobo Chronicles Opens New Philippine Office, Next To Rappler’s

AC office, Unit A, left; Rappler’s office, Unit B, right

PASIG CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – California-based The Adobo Chronicles (AC) has finally opened its Philippine office in Pasig City, next to archrival Rappler.

Pasig City Mayor-elect Vico Sotto and his mother, entertainment personality Connie Reyes, cut the ceremonial ribbon to formally inaugurate AC’s new local  headquarters located at Unit  A (for Adobo), 3/F, North Wing Estancia Offices, Capitol Commons, Ortigas Center, Pasig City (Rappler occupies Unit B in the same Building floor).

AC CEO and Executive Editor Rene Astudillo said that it is quite appropriate that the news satire site office is right next to Rappler, the top online purveyor of fake news.

Astudillo and Maria Ressa have long been at odds because the Rappler CEO doesn’t seem to get satire.  Conversely, Ressa has accused AC of not getting satire.

Rappler has fact-checked AC many times while Ressa and Rappler have been AC’s favorite topic in its breaking stories.

AC has also announced that it will soon establish an Indonesian Bureau to provide balance and competition to Rappler’s dispatches from Jakarta. It comes right on the heels of unrest in Indonesia following the country’s presidential elections.

Malls, Shopping Centers, Resorts Hail Shorter Work Week Approved By Philippine Senate

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Imagine working ten hours a day, but just four days a week. Imagine having a three-day weekend year-round, not including an extra day during holiday weekends!

Voting 17-0, the Philippine Senate approved on Monday a bill filed by Sen. Joel Villanueva that would allow Filipino workers to enjoy more flexible work schedules.

Under the proposed law, employees can opt out of rendering eight hours of work for five days a week. Instead, they can craft a “mutually agreed voluntary work arrangement” with their employer.

Workers may choose to serve longer hours for a fewer number of days as long as they can meet the prescribed workweek time frame, which is usually 40 hours.

Upon hearing the news, malls and shopping centers praised the Senate for the legislation.

A spokesperson for SM Malls told The Adobo Chronicles that if signed by the President,  the new law would mean bigger profit since consumers will have an extra day to shop or eat out at restaurants in the malls. A similar sentiment was expressed by the management of Ayala Malls.

Operators of beach and other recreation resorts said they couldn’t be more happy about the proposed law.

For the first time in Philippine history, a bill passed by the Senate has received overwhelming, if not unanimous support from the Filipinos.

Anything that brings in more money or more time for the Filipinos’ favorite pass time — hanging out in airconditioned malls!
