Philippine President Duterte Orders Free Admission To 2017 Miss Universe Pageant In Manila

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has been clear from the very beginning: hosting the 2017 Miss Universe Pageant is not a priority of his administration and he does not want to spend a single centavo of government funds to stage the popular beauty contest in his country.

So, while  pageant will still be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila on January 30, 2017, it will be funded 100% by the private sector.

But then there is one problem.

Tickets to the pageant finals  have gone on sale and the prices are astronomical. A VIP ticket reportedly costs over P35,000.   General admission is fixed at P3,700  which amounts to more than a week’s pay for minimum wage earners.

“I cannot allow the pageant to be held in my country and yet my countrymen will not even be able to afford and watch the show,” Duterte said.

He then issued an Executive Order directing organizers to make the pageant free admission.

“I don’t care how the private sector will finance the pageant, so long as it will not involve any drug money,” the president emphasized.

Senator Tito Sotto: Give Employees 13th Month Pay In Advance So They Can Purchase Their Miss Universe Pageant Tickets

Reigning Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Yesterday, we reported that Senator Tito Sotto III has filed a bill that would grant private sector employees a 14th-month pay in addition to the already-mandated 13th-month salary.

Today, Sotto introduced an amendment to his Senate Bill No. 2, ordering the government and private employers to immediately release their employees’ 13th month pay, instead of waiting for December this year.

The reason?

Sotto said  that the advance 13th-month pay would enable Filipinos to purchase their tickets to the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant which will be held on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena.  This is the third time that the Philippines plays host to the international beauty contest. Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is the reigning Miss Universe.

Tickets for the coronation night are now available for purchase  — from P35,200 for Special VIP tickets to P3,700 for general admission.

Because of the Filipinos’ penchant for beauty pageants, especially Miss Universe, organizers expect to sell out quickly.

“With the steep ticket prices, we need to provide our ordinary workers with the capacity to secure their seats for the coronation night,” Sotto said.  He urged his fellow senators to give his bill the highest priority so that the workers’ 13th-month pay can be released immediately before tickets to the pageant run out.

If Trump Loses Election, He Will Buy Back Miss Universe Organization, Supports Philippines as 2017 Venue

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s official — according to the Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT), the next Miss Universe Beauty Pageant will be held on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia in Manila, Philippines.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that he does not want to spend money to host the international contest, but was assured that funds to stage the pageant will come from the private sector.

DOT said confirmed that Japanese billionaire and chief of Tiger Resort, Kazuo Okada, as well as the country’s richest man, Henry Sy, will be among the private sector sponsors of the pageant.

Speaking from Las Vegas, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump also announced that if loses in the U.S. elections this November, he will buy back the Miss Universe Organization so that he could recoup the money spent in his presidential campaign.

Trump said that he supports the Philippines as the host and venue for the 2017 pageant and he hopes to make a personal appearance in Manila in January should he lose the election to Hillary Clinton.
