TOKYO, Japan (The Adobo Chronicles, Tokyo Bureau) – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s three-day official state visit to Japan is expected to secure billions of dollars in trade deals for the Philippines, but his rock star status has earned him the honor to be among the celebrity judges at tomorrow’s Miss International Beauty Pageant.

The 56th Miss International pageant will be held on October 27, 2016 at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Edymar Martínez from Venezuela will crown her successor at the end of the event.

In addition to his known love for women, Duterte hails from a country that has had 5 Miss International Beauty titles, second only to Venezuela in the most number of crowns for this pageant.

This year’s Philippines’ representative is Kylie Versoza from Baguio City.

Duterte promises there will be no “hometown decision” when he sits on the judges’chair tomorrow night. (Duterte hometown is, in fact, Davao City.)

MANILA. Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s War on drugs will not spare anyone, not even beauty pageant contestants.

Today the Philippines announced that the Miss Universe contestants from Venezuela and Brazil will not be allowed to participate in the international beauty pageant to be held here next January.

The announcement came as two female foreigners — one from Venezuela and the other from Brazil (not the pageant contestants) — were nabbed by authorities at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for trying to bring in illegal drugs.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald ‘Bato’ De La Rosa warned other countries that their Miss Universe contest representatives will also be banned if any of their female citizens are caught trying to smuggle drugs into the country.

With the banning of Venezuela and Brazil, the Philippines’ representative, Maxine Medina  will have a much better chance to win the crown (back to back) now worn by Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

Venezuela and Brazil are among the consistent winners and finalists in the 65-year-old pageant.

Will The Real Miss Philippines Please Step Forward?

img_6379MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In every competition, there are hometown decisions, and then there are hometown decisions. Two for one, so to speak.

When the 2016 Miss Earth beauty pageant unravels in Manila on October 29, there will be two Filipinas who will be competing for the crown: Miss Philippines and Miss Sweden.

Miss Philippines is Imelda Schweighart who happens to be part German.  Then there’s Filipina Cloie Skarne, Miss Sweden.

Cloie is Filipino by blood and strongly resembles singer-actress KC Concepcion who is her half sister.

Cloie is the daughter of actor Gabby Concepcion by Jenny Syquia but has taken on the last name of her Swedish adoptive father; while KC is Concepcion’s daughter by Sharon Cuneta.

The other contestants are already crying “foul” because they feel that the Philippines has two representatives to the pageant.  “That doubles the chances that the next Miss Earth will be Filipina,” they claimed.

The reigning Miss Earth is also Filipina, Angelia Ong.
