Miss Universe Returns To The Philippines, Tax Woman Confiscates Her Crown

NINOY AQUINO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach arrived in her native Philippines today to a warm welcome at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). She wasn’t wearing her $300,000 crown.

In her brief statement upon arrival, Wurtzbach thanked all who trooped to the airport in the early hours of the morning to welcome her.  She did not mention anything about her missing crown.

However, The Adobo Chronicles just learned that the crown was personally confiscated by the Philippines’ chief tax woman, Kim Henares of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).  The BIR commissioner was on hand to greet her at the airport’s VIP lounge with an official tax statement demanding $30,000  (1.4 Million pesos) in taxes for the bejeweled crown.

When Wurtzbach refused to pay up, saying that the crown is just “on loan” to her for the duration of her reign, Henares ordered her tax agents to confiscate the crown.

Miss Universe is scheduled to hold a press conference tomorrow and is expected to reveal details of the confiscated crown.

Steve Harvey Questioned Over Missing Beauty Crown And Sash

SEATTLE, Washington (The Adobo Chronicles) – There is a missing beauty crown and a sash, and television host Steve Harvey is being questioned by authorities for it.

It has nothing to do with Miss Universe. Rather, it is about Miss Washington USA. Stormy Keffeler who had earlier won the crown resigned after a previous DUI arrest surfaced. However, the first runner-up could not be crowned because Keffeler said both the crown and the sash mysteriously disappeared.

Harvey, many will recall mistakenly crowned Miss Colombia in last December’s Miss Universe pageant only to correct himself and say that Miss Philippines had actually won the contest.

Authorities said Harvey is not a suspect in the disapperance of the Miss Washington USA crown and sash. “We’re just trying to pursue all possible leads to find the missing items,” they said.

Golden Globes: Hollywood Foreign Press Association Scolds Jennifer Lawrence

HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – During a backstage press conference at last night’s Golden Globes, Jennifer Lawrence, who won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy film, scolded a foreign journalist for looking at his phone while asking a question of the “Joy” star.

“You can’t live your whole life behind your phone, bro,” she said to a male journalist whose first language was apparently not English.  He was reading his question  — translated from his native language to English — from his smart phone.

After the press conference, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) scolded back Lawrence for being rude and insensitive, especially given the fact that her award came from a FOREIGN press association whose members consider English as a second, or third language.

“Apparently, Miss Lawrence thinks that if one can’t speak English, or has a foreign accent, he or she does not have any business asking her a question at a press conference in an awards show,” HFPA said.
