‘Nina,’ Starring Zoe Saldana: The First Contender For The 2017 Oscars

imageHOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Now that the 2016 Oscars have been handed out, it’s time for film makers and moviegoers to look to next year’s contenders. Critics are already saying that ‘Nina,’ a biopic about the legendary troubled singer Nina Simone, is leading the pack.

The new film stars actress Zoe Saldana and David Oyelowo (‘Selma,’ ‘The Brave One’).

Saldana, a Latina, brings to life the blues legend who was a major figure during the civil rights movement.

There was one problem when Saldana was cast. She wasn’t  black enough. But make-up artists worked hard to make her light skin several shades darker. They even gave her a prosthetic nose.

And so, the rest is history. ‘Nina’ is all but assured of a nomination, perhaps even an  Oscar statuette for ‘Best Make-up’ come the 2017 Academy Awards.

Is this the beginning of the end of #oscarssowhite?

“Nina,”  hits theaters and VOD on April 22.

Oscar Winner Sam Smith No Longer A Card-Carrying Member Of LGBT

Cancelled!
Cancelled!

HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Sam Smith, the British singer/composer who won this year’s Oscar Award for best song just lost his membership in the LGBT community, thanks to his misinformed acceptance speech Sunday night in which he claimed to be the first-ever openly-gay person to win an Oscar.

By a unanimous consent vote, LGBTs across America approved a resolution by the Human Rights Campaign, to cancel Smith’s membership and ID.

One doesn’t have to be gay to become a member, but one must know LGBT history.

Smith, however, remains to be an honorary member of the European Union (EU) LGBT community.

The Adobo Chronicles tired to reach Smith and his publicist but our calls were not returned.

PRAHA, Czech Republic (The Adobo Chronicles) –Diamonds International Corporation (DIC), the Miss Universe sponsor that created the $300,000 crown of the Philippines’ Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is suing the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) for patent violation.

The Czech Republic-based DIC told reporters in Praha that it is suing BPCI, the local franchisee for the Miss Universe Pageant in Manila for unauthorized replication of the bejeweled Miss Universe crown.

BPCI built a float for Wurtzbach for use in the welcome and homecoming parade held yesterday in Metro Manila.  The float had a giant canopy which basically re-created the crown.

DIC declined to state the amount that it is suing BPCI for.
