Catholic Church Cries Foul Over Bikini Open At Ati-Atihan Festivities, Here’s Why

A65F3FB8-D69E-49E0-97E2-5F11685DC680KALIBO, Aklan (The Adobo Chronicles, Iloilo Bureau) – It’s that time of year when Kalibo transforms into a mardi-gras world to celebrate the Ati-Atihan Festival, commemorating the feast of the Sto. Niño, or the child Jesus.

The Catholic Church — despite the festival’s commercialization for decades now — maintains that Ati-Atihan remains, and should remain, a religious festival.

And so, when a Mr. and Miss Bikini Open was held in conjunction with the festivities, Fr. Joesel Quan cried ‘foul.’ He bemoaned the attire of the contestants.

However, a young altar boy close to Fr. Quan, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Adobo Chronicles that the real reason the priest was concerned and disappointed was because the chosen bikini attires of the contestants were not ‘revealing enough.’

”Father was so looking forward to the event, and even volunteered to be a judge.  But when all was said and done, he was not happy and instead publicly complained about the impropriety of the extra-curricular event.

Facebook Crowdsources For ‘Sarcasm’ Emoji

FC0446F1-680B-4434-B2C0-316C2316F0F0SAN JOSE, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Jose Bureau) – There’s an emoji for all sorts of emotions on Facebook — sad, happy, angry, being gay — but none for being sarcastic.

Finally, the social networking giant is giving in to requests for a sarcastic emoticon so that netizens don’t have to explain that their comment or post is meant to taunt, criticize or humorize (is there such a word?).

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has sought the assistance of The Adobo Chronicles’ readers and followers to help design or identify an emoticon that would best represent sarcasm.

Pictured are some potential sarcasm emojis, but our readers can always design and submit other proposals.
