A Nation Held Hostage By Hair Strands

In a stunning display of self-importance, critics of President Bongbong Marcos have proudly submitted themselves for drug hair follicle testing—an act so unsolicited, it rivals surprise birthday parties thrown by the celebrants themselves. Who, exactly, asked them to do this? Who sat at home, clutching their pearls, thinking, “If only these critics proved their sobriety, the country would be saved!”

Predictably, the results came back negative, leading to self-congratulatory pats on the back, as if this somehow advances national discourse.

Meanwhile, the President, who already clarified that follicle tests have nothing to do with public trust, is probably wondering why his critics are so obsessed with proving something only they questioned in the first place.

At this rate, we can expect them to take polygraphs to prove their honesty, blood tests to confirm they’re still human, and IQ tests—though let’s not get our hopes up on that last one.

Should Congress Ban AI In The Philippines?

The Philippine House of Representatives, in its noble crusade against fake news, has taken on the Herculean task of summoning social media influencers and bloggers suspected of peddling misinformation. Because, of course, the biggest threats to truth and democracy are basement-dwelling keyboard warriors and not, say, politicians who confidently rewrite history and spin tall tales during election season.

But wait—shouldn’t our lawmakers also be investigating Artificial Intelligence? AI can now make it snow in Baguio, launch jumbo jets from ship decks, and turn Senator Bato de la Rosa into a superhero! Who will hold this digital sorcery accountable? Will Congress summon ChatGPT to a hearing, grill it under oath, and demand it reveal its sources? Perhaps they’ll draft a bill banning AI-generated lies—unless, of course, it’s used for campaign propaganda.

In the end, this spectacle might be just another exercise in futility—after all, fighting fake news in the Philippines is like fighting fire with gasoline.

Make America Great Again, But Not For All Citizens!

Ah, America—the land of the free, where even its own citizens aren’t safe from deportation. Take, for instance, the case of a Puerto Rican military veteran, a man who put his life on the line for the very nation that later handed him a one-way ticket out. He was arrested in a deportation raid! You’d think serving in the military would at least earn you a permanent spot in the club. But no, paperwork errors and systemic ignorance take priority over logic.

Perhaps it’s an elaborate ploy to redefine patriotism. “Thank you for your service—now leave.” Or maybe it’s a bold experiment in irony, deporting people from their own country just to see if anyone notices. Either way, it’s a masterclass in how to make bureaucracy look both cruel and hilariously inept.

The last time we checked, Guam, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, and US Virgin Islands are territories and part of America as well. So America can’t just banish its citizens to “Make America Great Again!”
