DONALD TRUMP WILL BOYCOTT MISS USA OVER IMMIGRANT CONTESTANTS

imageBATON ROUGE, Louisiana (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Tomorrow’s (July 12) Miss USA Pageant will not be seen on NBC or Univision, and it remains unclear whether there will be any celebrity hosts or judges after many of those originally tapped for the show dropped out in protest of owner Donald Trump’s disparaging remarks about Mexicans and immigrants.

Well, Trump himself said he was boycotting the pageant and will be a no-show.

The reason? The real estate mogul and presidential candidate can’t take any more criticism for the irony between his anti-immigrant statements and the pageant.

Apparently, Miss Rhode Island Anea Garcia’s grandmother emigrated to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic, and Miss Massachuseets Polikseni Manxhari immigrated to the U.S. from Albania with her parents when she was 5. Many other contestants have roots from Latin America, Asia and other continents.

“For me to suggest building a great wall to prevent immigrants from crossing our borders and yet sponsoring a pageant full of immigrant contestants does not make sense, and it damages my credibility — something that I cannot afford if I were to win votes to become president,” Trump said.

For once, Trump seems to make some good sense.

VICE PRESIDENT JEJOMAR BINAY’S GRAND PLAN IF ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – If you live in, or are visiting the Philippines, you can’t really go on a road trip to visit all of the country’s more than 7,000 islands. Along the way, you’ll enncounter water and have to hop onto a ship, barge or boat to get to the next closest island.

But all that is going to change if Vice President Jejomar Binay is elected president in 2016. Forget Metro Manila’s Light Railway System (LRT, MRT). They’re peanuts compared to what Binay has in his presidential blueprint.

Before his 6-year term is over in 2022, the entire Philippines — land and water, from the northernmost tip of Aparri to the southernmost tip of Tawi-Tawi–  will be connected by a high-speed railway system that would put Japan to shame.image

When completed, the Pan-Philippine High-Speed Railway System will become the world’s longest, fastest and scenic mode of mass transportation.

President Aquino’s mantra is “Tuwid na Daan,” (straight path), in reference to his anti-corruption campaign.  For Binay, it will be “Liku-Likong Daan” (crooked path), but via bullet trains.

IT’S OFFICIAL: ATE VI VS. ATE GUY FOR PHILIPPINE VICE PRESIDENT!

L-R: Roxas, Santos, Binay, Aunor
L-R: Roxas, Santos, Binay, Aunor

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – It’s been a rivalry like no other, as far as Philippine cinema was concerned.  Movie fans were either for actresses Nora Aunor or Vilma Santos.

Well, it looks like that show business rivalry continues into 2016 — in politics — when the presidential elections are held to determine the successors of President NoyNoy Aquino and Vice President Jejomar Binay.

From all indications, Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas is the administration’s choice to succeed Aquino, and Roxas has chosen his vice presidential runningmate, Batangas Governor Vilam Santos. Roxas made his VP choice public today in an event in Batangas.

Not to be outdone, Vice President Binay, long considered to be the frontrunner in the 2016 presidential race (before Senator Grace Poe took over the lead in the most recent polls), announced his choice for vice president — none other than Nora Aunor.

A victory for Aunor would be a vindication for her after Aquino snubbed her in last year’s naming of the National Artists.

In the Philippines, politics and showbusiness are always a perfect match, and this tandem on both the Roxas and Binay camps is no exception.

But don’t discount Senator Grace Poe as yet.  It is rumored that she is about to name actor Dingdong Dantes as her vice presidential runningmate.

Oh, what fun. In the Philippines.
