LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – In an effort to demonstrate his humanitarian side, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has announced that he is donating $1 Billion of his own money to help with relief operations following the expected devastation on Mexico resulting from hurricane Patricia.

Patricia is now being considered as the strongest hurricane ever in history to hit the American continent.

“I know I have been mean to Mexicans throughout the course of my presidential campaign, but I do have a soft spot for the country south of the U.S. border,” Trump said. “If it weren’t for Mexicans, my hotels, casinos and golf courses wouldn’t have been as successful. I love my Mexican employees and they love me,” he added.

Following Trump’s announcement, the government of Mexican President Peña Nieto asked the real estate mogul to immediately issue a cashier’s check so that relief and rehabilitation efforts can begin immediately.

MARGARET CHO RANTS: ‘ONLY THREE-QUARTERS ASIAN AMERICAN’ HOSTED SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE IN 41 YEARS

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles) – Comedian Margaret Cho criticized Saturday Night Live for not ever having an Asian American host for 41 years now. She made the comment while protesting the fact that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump  whom he described as a “racist, sexist and incestuous man, ” will be returning to the late-night show as host for the second time on November 7.

When asked which Asian American personality should be invited as SNL host, Cho said, “Me, of course!”

When others pointed out to Cho that in fact there had been two previous SNL hosts who were Asian American —  Fred Armisen, a quarter Japanese and  Rob Schneider, half Filipino– she replied:

“People come at me and say, ‘Oh, Fred Armisen is a quarter Japanese, Rob Schneider is half Filipino.’ Yeah, that makes three-quarters of an Asian-American, not even in one person, in 41 years.”

Cho, was born in America to Korean parents.  So that, in effect, makes her part American and part Korean.

“If I am invited to host SNL, then that would make for a total of one and a quarter Asian American hosts for the show in 41 years” she added.

A quick check of SNL archives, however, shows that other Asian Americans have hosted SNL: Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu and Bruno Mars. So that totals three and three-quarters, without Cho.

A DISTURBING PATTERN FOR PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTS

TRIO
L-R: Estrada, Arroyo, Aquino

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The two Philippine presidents before this current administration both faced jail time, and  NoyNoy Aquino seems headed the same path as his predecessors.

Joseph Estrada was jailed for plunder but was subsequently released by his successor, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who herself is in hospital arrest for charges of  electoral sabotage and misuse of lottery funds.

On Wednesday,  Aquino said that if necessary, he is willing to be put in jail for the decisions he made during his term.

Asked about his opinion on threats by his critics to charge and arrest him for the implementation of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), parts of which were declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court,  Aquino said that going to jail will be a “necessary consequence.”

(Update:  President Aquino was accused yesterday before the Office of the Ombudsman of illegal use of public funds through DAP and PDAF).

Because of this consistent pattern with the Office of the President, lawmakers are gearing up for a charter change (locally known as ‘cha-cha’) that would amend the qualifications for the presidency. In addition to citizenship, residency and age qualifications, the lawmakers want every candidate for president to be “able and willing” to go to jail after his or her term of office. A few senators are even proposing that the elected president should not be immune from lawsuit during his or her term.
