Philippine Politics: Can’t Answer Questions? Just Dance!

Moreno

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Who can forget that awkward interview by television news anchor Karen Davila with senatorial candidate and movie actress Alma Moreno, when, faced by tough questioning, said “do I need to answer the question?”

Well, all that is now behind Moreno, incumbent city councilor of Parañaque.

She doesn’t give interviews any more.  She doesn’t even give campaign speeches.  She would just dance the night away and try to look cute in front of her party’s presidential candidate Vice President Jejomar Binay, and fellow senatorial candidate, boxer Manny Pacquiao.

Good campaign advisers, she must have!

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As the May 9 Philippine presidential elections draw closer, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte seems to be the growing target of his political rivals as well as the media. Duterte has been in front-page headlines locally and internationally in the last several days.

Duterte agreed to sit down with The Adobo Chronicles to answer the allegations and criticism hurled against him.  Here is a complete transcript of the interview:

AC: Your video clip in which you joked about the serial rape  and murder of an Australian missionary has been met with strong protest by the Australian government.  What do you say to Australian government.

DUTERTE:  Keep out, Australia, keep out!

AC: Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas has called you a “dictator” and “the biggest and gravest threat to our democracy.”  What do you say to him?

DUTERTE: Keep out, Mar Roxas, keep out!

AC: The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has urged Catholic Filipino voters to reject your candidacy for president.  What do you say to the bishops?

DUTERTE: Keep out, CBCP, keep out!

AC: Your own daughter Sara said that she was raped and was not offended by your video clip.  What do you say to her?

DUTERTE:  Keep out, Sara, keep out!

AC: Is there anything else you’d like to say to us, other than “keep out?”

DUTERTE:  Get out, Adobo Chronicles, get out right now!

Aquino Government Opens Newest Mega Mall In Manila

Opening day sale at the New Bilibid Prison Mega Mall in Muntinglupa
Opening day sale at the New Bilibid Prison Mega Mall in Muntinglupa

MUNTINGLUPA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was like a scene from a Black Friday sale in the U.S., only the setting was in Metro Manila, and it wasn’t even Thanksgiving.

As soon as the mega mall opened, there was a mad rush to purchase hugely discounted sale items — from giant-screen television sets, to expensive jewelry, exercise equipment, alcohol and cigarettes, and even pets.

It was the grand opening of the Aquino administration’s latest showcase of its anti-corruption campaign, ‘Daang Matuwid.’ The venue: the New Bilibid Prison (National Penitentiary).

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda  told The Adobo Chronicles that if the government can’t lick it, it might as well profit from it, referring to all the smuggled goods that come in and out of the prison cells.

Net profit from the opening day sale will be used to fund the waning presidential campaign of presidential candidate Mar Roxas, Aquino’s anointed successor.

Already, the new mega mall is being hailed as the most beautiful art deco mall in the world — yet another record for the Philippines.
