Philippine President-Elect Duterte Will Not Wear Funeral Attire At His Inauguration

imageDAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s official.  President-elect Rodrigo Duterte will not wear the barong tagalog when he takes his oath of office on June 30.

The Davao city mayor told reporters that he considers the barong — the formal attire for Filipino males — as a funeral attire, pointing out that all of his close friends who had died wore the barong to their final resting place.

Last week, The Adobo Chronicles revealed Duterte’s inaugural attire consisting of a red, white and black checkered polo shirt and a reddish-brown leather jacket, modeled by Filipino American singer Bruno Mars, and designed by Colombian artist Alfredo Barraza.

Duterte’s transition team also announced that the president-elect is departing from established tradition by having his oath-taking in Malacañang (the presidential palace) instead of the Quirino Grandstand at Manila’s Rizal Park (Luneta).

Change, indeed, is coming!

San Diego Padres To Gay Men’s Chorus: “Sorry, We Will Change Our Name To Madres”

image.jpegSAN DIEGO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Claiming it was a mistake inside the audio control room, the San Diego Padres today apologized to the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus (SDGMC) for the embarrassing moment at Petco Park this weekend.

Members of the SDGMC took the field at Petco Park to sing the national anthem. Instead of their voices, fans of the Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers heard a recorded voice of a woman singing the anthem, and when the group stepped off the field at the end of the song it was to taunts such as, “You sing like a girl,” according to a statement on the SDGMC Facebook page.

The chorus called for Major Leage Baseball to investigate the incident as a possible anti-gray discrimination or hate crime.

To show its sincerity in feeling very sorry about the incident and that it truly empathizes with the chorus members, owners of the San Diego Padres announced that the team will immediately change its name to “Madres.”

Malacañang Says ‘Suspicious’ Document Shredding Is for Duterte Ticker Tape Parade

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Rappler is reporting that some staffers of Malacañang, the Philippine presidential palace, are disturbed and dismayed by a recent order issued to some departments under the Office of the President, to shred certain government documents and memos signed by outoing President NoyNoy Aquino and Cabinet secretaries.

Observers say the palace order is quite ‘suspicious.’

A presidential spokesperson, who spoke to The Adobo Chronicles on condition of anonymity, said that while it is true that documents were ordered to be destroyed and shredded, it was for use during a ticker tape parade planned to welcome incoming President Rodrigo Duterte to Malacañang.

Duterte is set to be inaugurated at noon on June 30, at which time Aquino’s 6-year-term as president will come to an end.
