Duterte’s Message To Crocodiles In Philippine Congress

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – There are two names that members of the Congress of the Philippines are often referred to: baboy  and buwaya ( pigs and crocodiles.)  Pigs because of the masssive pork barrel scam that many of the senators and congressmen were implicated in; crocodiles because of their penchant for gobbling as much as they possibly can when it comes to public funds for themselves or their most loyal constituents.

Well, change is coming under the administration of President-elect Rod Duterte.  There will no longer be any pork barrels or crocodiles in congress.

If there is any clear indication that the Davao City mayor will not tolerate any graft and corruption during his presidency, an ominous sign was seen in public during the Duterte thanksgiving and victory event held yesterday in his city.

Instead of the usual lechon (roast pig), the Duterte camp served a different kind of roast for the celebration: crocodile.

Be forewarned.

Donald Trump Calls Dixie Chicks “Chicken”

HONOLULU, Hawaii  (The Adobo Chronicles, Honolulu Bureau) – Presumptive Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump today trashed the Texas-based musical group Dixie Chicks and called the ladies “chicken.”

The trio opened their DCX MMXVI World Tour in Cincinnati yesterday by performing their 1999 hit “Goodbye Earl” against a backdrop showing Trump with devil horns, mustache and beard.

These are the same ladies  who, during a 2003 concert, slammed George W. Bush for his decision to invade Iraq, saying that they were ashamed of their president.

“These good-for-nothing women are chicken,” said Trump, “they’re no longer chicks. They’re doing to me what they did to George W. 13 years ago.  They’re trying hard to learn new tricks, but they’re too old for that and should be ashamed of themselves.”

Upon hearing of Trump’s statement, the Dixie Chicks said they’re not going to change anything in their concert.  In fact, they plan to add neon colors to the Trump backdrop in their succeeding shows. “We might even replace the backdrop with a better image of Trump — as the Joker in Batman,” they said.

Duterte Defends His Catcalling, Cites “The King and I”

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Honolulu Bureau) – “Whenever I feel afraid, I hold my head erect, and whistle a happy tune, so no one will suspect I’m afraid.”

President-elect Rod Duterte today defended his catcalling of a female reporter during a recent press briefing, citing the song, “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” from the Broadway musical and film, “The King and I.”

The Davao City mayor said, “just like what the song says, I was really afraid and nervous during the press briefing and that’s why I resorted to whistling.  “It was not intended to disrespect the reporter,” he added.

Media reports on the incident, however, failed to say whether Duterte whistled in, or out of, tune.

Meanwhile, Gabriela party-list Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan, who ran for councilor of Davao in the May polls, said catcalling is “not a form of sexual harassment.” Ilagan’s statement drew a few whistles here and there, especially from women advocates.
