MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s inclusion in the latest TIME Magazine cover story on “Rise of the Strongman,” drew varied reaction in the Philippines.
Many Filipinos expressed pride in their President being lumped with other world leaders. Still others used the cover story to argue about their claim that Duterte is either Authoritarian or a Dictator.
But Undersecretary Mocha Uson of the PCOO had a different take on the whole thing. She slammed TIME for using an unauthorized image of Duterte on the cover. The image shows the Philippine President wearing the same black coat and blue tie as the rest of the world leaders in the photo.
”Duterte would never wear the exact attire as the world leaders, especially that blue tie,” Uson told The Adobo Chronicles. “TIME should have been more culturally sensitive by using an image of Duterte in his favorite Barong Tagalog,” she added.
Or that checkered shirt, maybe?
