Maria Ressa Sues TIME Magazine For ‘Person Of The Year’ Cover Photo

72543474-0566-40B9-BD3F-10C490E567C5MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Sometimes you bite the hand that feeds you.  At other times, you sue the publication that honors you.

Such is the case with Rappler CEO Maria Ressa who is among TIME’s  2018 “Persons of the Year.”  She is now suing the magazine for using an unimpressive, nay, offensive photo of her on the cover.

Unlike the three other covers, the one that honors Ressa depicts her as the devil — complete with red horns (see photo with our annotation). She accused TIME of spreading a subliminal message that she is evil.

Ressa told The Adobo Chronicles that she suspects the magazine’s graphic artist is a closet DDS (Duterte Die-hard Supporter).

We tried to reach the editors at TIME for comment but they have not responded as of press time.

Senator Leila De Lima’s Statement On Maria Ressa Being Named TIME Person Of The Year

BA926A60-13CA-46F0-87D7-596FDDB7EC23CAMP CRAME, Quezon City (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Incarcerated Senator Leila De Lima has been the poster child for political persecution and  the fight against dictatorship but has just been relegated to first runner-up by TIME Magazine.

TIME named Rappler CEO Maria Ressa one of this year’s “Persons of the Year,” all but snubbing De Lima.

A bitter De Lima issued this statement from her jail cell:

Senator Leila De Lima Slams Selection Of Maria Ressa As TIME Person Of The Year

BA926A60-13CA-46F0-87D7-596FDDB7EC23.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Incarcerated Senator Leila De Lima has slammed the choice of Maria Ressa as TIME magazine’s 2018 Person of the Year.

“Unlike myself, Ressa is free to roam around.  I have been incarcerated for my political views, while the Rappler CEO is being charged for tax evasion. It just makes sense for TIME to honor me instead of Ressa,” De Lima said.

Neither TIME nor Ressa have responded to The Adobo Chronicles request for comment on De Lima’s statement.
