Pro-Capital Punishment Philippine Senators Propose ‘Death In Tandem By Swing’

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manil Bureau) – In the 17th Philippine Congress, a measure seeking to reinstate the death penalty failed to pass the Senate despite it being one of President Rodrigo Duterte’s pet bills.

In his fourth State of the Nation Address, Duterte renewed his call to bring back the death penalty for heinous crimes related to drugs and plunder.

Many Senators — mostly aligned with the Administration — are taking heed and have gone a step further by proposing a novel way of carrying out the death penalty.  They’re calling it “death in tandem by swing” (see photo).

Move over the electric chair, firing squad, and lethal injection.

Death in tandem by swing involves two convicts at a time being chained to a swing set up against a concrete wall.

(The Adobo Chronicles opted not to describe in detail what this involves. We leave everything to our readers’ fertile imagination).

In defending their proposal, Senate President Tito Sotto denies it is a cruel form of punishment and death. Rather, he thinks it is humane and allows the convicts some enjoyment in their last moments in this world.

“It will give the convicts some opportunity to reminisce the good old days of their early childhood when they were brought to a public playground by their parents.” Sotto said.

Duterte Invites US Senators Leahy, Durbin, Others To Visit Malacañang Palace

Leahy, left, and Durbin

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A committee in the United States Senate has approved a proposal to prohibit the entry of Philippine government officials involved in the “politically-motivated” detention of Sen. Leila De Lima.

US Sen. Dick Durbin (D-ILL) lauded the US Senate’s appropriations committee for passing the amendment he proposed with Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT).

In retaliation, some Philippine Senators want to ban the U.S. Senators who approved the proposal from entering the Philippines.

But President Rodrigo Duterte has a different idea altogether. He has extended an invitation to Leahy, Durbin and other members of the U.S. Senate committee to visit Malacañang, the Philippine Presidential Palace.

Duterte however clarified that he cannot ensure that the visiting American Senators would be able to leave Malacañang or the Philippines after their visit.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) may need to build more jail cells next to that of Senator De Lima.

Bimby Aquino Invited To Speak Before U.N. Assembly Of Tiger Moms

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Move over Greta Thunberg. Your three minutes of fame are over.

Enter Bimby Aquino-Yap, 12-year-old son of Philippine Queen of All Media Kris Aquino, often referred to by some circles as a tiger mom.

Bimby has been invited to speak before a U.N. Assembly of tiger moms to be held next month in New York City.

Originally, the assembly wanted to invite Kris as speaker but after seeing the extensive media coverage Thunberg received after that angry, passionate speech on climate change, it opted to invite Bimby instead.

An assembly spokesperson said that Bimby is not only younger (he’s 12, Thunberg is 16), but also more good looking adorable than the Swedish activist. “He’also the  perfect person to talk about how it is to grow up with a tiger mom “ he said.

Loosely, a tiger mom is one who treats her children like she was a general in the army, dictating how her children should behave, what career to pursue (like piano lessons), and  how to present themselves before the public eye.

So Krissy!
