LAS VEGAS, Nevada (Exclusive to The Adobo Chronicles) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he didn’t care about political correctness when he called for banning all Muslims from entering the United States, despite condemnations from The White House, his fellow Republican candidates, and Muslim communities in the U.S. and abroad.

But it took a short but direct statement from newly-installed  (and newly-bearded) House Speaker, Republican Paul Ryan who disowned Trump’s comments, for the real estate mogul to finally realize he’s not going to get his party’s nomination. So today, Trump suspended his campaign, but only in as far as being a Republican candidate was concerned.

Buoyed by polls showing that almost three-quarters of his supporters would still vote for him if he ran as an independent, Trump put into motion his new presidential campaign as a third-party, independent candidate.

There is no stopping The Donald, notwithstanding the führer, we mean the furor, over his policy and campaign statements.

REIGNING MISS UNIVERSE PAULINA VEGA REFUSES TO GIVE UP CROWN UNTIL JANUARY

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Winning the Miss Universe crown means one has to wear it for a full year until her successor is chosen.  For reigning Miss Universe Paulina Vega of Colombia, she is refusing to give up her crown — at least not until January 24, 2016. She was crowned on January 25, 2015 in Doral, Florida.

This next Miss Universe will be crowned at the Planet Hollywood resort in Las Vegas on December 20, 2015 — a little more than a month short of a full year’s reign for Vega.

Per tradition, the outgoing Miss Universe transfers her crown to her successor during the pageant finals.  Since Vega has decided to keep her crown, the Miss Universe organization had to order a second crown for the pageant winner this month.

This is the second time this year that Vega has refused to relinquish her crown.  Earlier this year, former Miss Universe owner Donald Trump asked her to give up her crown after she had criticized and condemned the Republican presidential candidate for his comments about Mexicans and Mexican immigrants.  Trump called her a hypocrite for holding on to her title while condemning the pageant owner.

Because Vega refuses to step down as the reigning queen, there will be no traditional farewell walk at the Las Vegas pageant.  It would also mean that for 34 days after December 20, there will be two reigning Miss Universes!

PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS APOLOGIZES FOR TODAY’S FRONT-PAGE HEADLINE

imagePHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (The Adobo Chronicles) – Newsroom layoffs have finally caught up with the Philadelphia Daily News, particularly the lack of headline writers and copy editors.  Case in point: today’s front page.

The Daily News ran a front page cover with a photo of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his latest pronouncement calling for the banning of all Muslims from entering the United States.

The headline read, “The New Furor.”

Moments after the December 8 edition of the paper hit the newsstands and images of  the front page were posted on the Internet, the editors issued a public apology.

“Today, we ran a front page headline bearing the word, ‘Furor.’ It was a misspelling.  The correct word should have been ‘Führer,’ the editors said. “We sincerely apologize for this grave error.”
