GERMANY: THE NEW MISS UNIVERSE IS OUR CANDIDATE TOO

imageBERLIN, Germany (The Adobo Chronicles) – Saying that Sarah-Lorraine Riek does not speak for them, officials of  the organization in charge of the Miss Germany pageant, has issued an apology to Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

Shortly after the pageant finals on Sunday, Riek, Germany’s contestant in the international pageant,  told a television reporter that none of the contestants voted for Miss Philippines and that she was very upset at the results. As part of the final judging process, each of the contestants, other than the top three (USA ,  Colombia and the Philippines), was asked to vote for who she thinks should be the next Miss Universe.

In issuing the apology, the German organization stated that, ‘in fact  we are extremely happy that Wurtzbach won. She is Germany’s candidate too!’

Wurtzbach, of course, is half-German.

Germany has won just one Miss Universe crown in 1961 (Marlene Schmidt) while Wurtzbach is the third Filipina to win Miss Universe (Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margarita Moran in 1973).

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Perez Hilton, one of the four celebrity judges at last Sunday’s Miss Universe beauty pageant is finally breaking his silence about the gaffe in which pageant host Steve Harvey first announced that Miss Colombia won the crown and moments later recanting, saying it was actually Miss Philippines who won.

Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach deserved to win, the Hollywood entertainment mogul categorically stated on his website.

Perez also revealed that all four celebrity judges voted for Wurtzbach to be Miss Universe. “It was unanimous!’ The other judges were  Emmy Award-nominated actress Niecy Nash, 2012 Miss Universe Olivia Culpo and football legend Emmitt Smith.

The Miss Universe Organization also hinted today that Miss Philippines received a unanimous vote in the public online voting, at least among all Filipino voters. Viewers worldwide had the opportunity to vote for their favorite contestant in real time.

As for Miss Germany who claimed none of the contestants (who were announced as the surprise judge) voted for Wurtzbach, Hilton said, “How can Miss Germany know that? The contestants’ votes were anonymous.”

In the world (or planetarium) of Miss Universe, reason prevails. And so does rhyme. Unanimous, Anonymous.

COLOMBIA RENAMES ITSELF TO COLUMBIA

imageBOGOTÁ, Colombia (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Republic of Colombia, one of the Latin countries comprising South America, has gained overnight popularity, thanks to that eventful night in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Miss Universe host Steve Harvey misread his cue card and announced that Miss Colombia had won the 2015 crown, only to reverse himself moments later to say that it was actually Miss Philippines who won the pageant.

That awkward moment of de-crowning the Latin Beauty and (re)crowning the Filipina was the most reported and talked about event in the last 24 hours.  News reports and social media posts all but put Colombia in the spotlight, making it the most searched country on the Internet.

Alas, people around the world kept misspelling Colombia, thinking that the country’s name was no different from the famous university in New York or the U.S. capital situated in the District of Columbia.

In order to sustain the popularity and unparalleled momentum, the Colombian government decided to rename the country Columbia, hoping that this would significantly increase tourism to the South American country while making sure that people will not forget the 2015 Colombian beauty queen who was  crowned and de-crowned in Las Vegas.

Bienvenidos a todos. Nuestra pais se llama Columbia!
