PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT AQUINO WANTS MANILA’S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT REINSTATED AMONG WORLD’S WORST

Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal is this year’s “Worst International Airport,” displacing the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles ) – For the last three years, the Philippines’ Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA)  in Manila has been named the worst airport, a distinction that the Aquino administration prides itself about.

“We like being in the world’s top ten lists,” Aquino said previously.

However, in 2015, NAIA has been taken off the bottom of the list, and furthermore, from the top ten list of the world’ worst international airports.

But amid the embarrassing  scheme at NAIA — where bullets are planted into bags of unsuspecting airline passengers allegedly for extortion purposes  — Aquino called for the Philippines to be put back as the world’ worst airport.

Aquino ordered his Transportation and Tourism secretaries to work with the international body responsible in putting out the annual list to make this happen.

“I want this to be my biggest legacy as I prepare to step down from the presidency in 2016,” he said.

NAIA’S LAGLAG BALA ERADICATED, THANKS TO MAYOR DUTERTE!

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – To the relief of the Aquino administration and the weary traveling public, the extortion scheme known as laglag bala  has finally been put to rest, thanks to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

The scheme involves the ‘planting’ of bullets into the bags of airline passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) allegedly by airport personnel for the purpose of extorting money.

Passengers have resorted to wrapping their bags in plastic to prevent being victimized by the schemers.  The plastic wrapping has not solved the problem.

The tough-talking Duterte who many still hope would run for president, is known for his extra judicial ways of dealing with criminals and other bad elements in his city.

Once, Duterte forced a man who violated the no-smoking ordinance in his hometown to swallow his cigarette butt to avoid being put in jail.

Reacting to the laglag bala scheme, Duterte said that if he were president, he would force the schemers to swallow the bullets.

Duterte’s statement gave many passengers a brilliant idea.  Instead of wrapping their bags with plastic, they have been taping a photo of Duterte to their bags, with his warning against the bullet schemers (see photo).

Now, every NAIA passenger is doing the same and boy, did the laglag bala scheme suddenly disappear.

Thanks Mayor Duterte!

MCDONALD’S SIGN LANGUAGE DRIVE THRU VS. JOLLIBEE’S MULTILINGUAL ORDERING SYSTEM

SILICON VALLEY, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – The fast food industry is going high-tech, thanks to many innovations introduced by Silicon Valley companies.

McDonald’s has just unveiled its first drive-thru that enables the hearing-impaired to use sign language when ordering their burgers and fries.

The new technology uses a two-way camera at the ordering station where McDonald’s  trained staff can see and  be seen by customers. They communicate by sign language.

McDonald’s biggest competitor, Jollibee, is not far behind in using technology.  The Philippine-owned fast food restaurant has gone multilingual as a way to attract a more diverse clientele.

When ordering at the counter or at the drive-thru where available, customers speak into a portable tablet, with Google Translate app installed, ordering in their choice of language.  The computer then detects the language and translates the order for the Jollibee staff. Monolingual staff can now take the orders in any language — from English to Spanish, to French, while non-Tagalog customers can order in a breeze —  in their own language!

The competition heats up between McDonald’s and Jollibee!
