MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Filipinos woke up Tuesday to the news that their boxing hero is the new World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion of the world.
WBO stripped Floyd Mayweather, who defeated Pacquiao during the May 2 ‘Fight of the Century’ in Las Vegas, of the title for failure to comply with its rules.
The boxing organization does not allow boxers to hold world titles in multiple weight classes at the same time. After outclassing Pacquiao, Mayweather holds titles from the WBO, the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Association. Despite repeated requests from WBO for Mayweather to abide by the rules, he held on to his other titles.
Filipino fans took the day off from work and school, dancing and celebrating in the streets of Manila.
The celebration may be short-lived. Stripping Mayweather of the title does not automatically make Pacquiao the new title holder.
But beauty pageant-loving Filipinos know better:
In the Miss Universe pageant — or any other beauty pageant — the first runner-up is as important as the title holder. If for any reason, the reigning queen cannot fulfill her duties, the first runner-up automatically inherits the crown.

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – “The media was consumed with stories about Americans have to be on the lookout for ISIS attacks and terror attack expected and, oooh, shark attacks, but I will bet you by the end of the weekend more Americans will have been killed by Mexicans than by ISIS or by sharks.”
PARIS, France (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) today honored the Philippines with another World Heritage Site designation, this time for Torre De Manila. The 46-storey condominium project at Luneta Park in Manila joins Vigan City, in Ilocos Sur in receiving this prestigious designation.
