CHICAGO, Illinois (The Adobo Chronicles) – President NoyNoy Aquino spoke before a small group of 300 Americans, mostly Filipino Americans, in Chicago tonight, as part of what the Philippine Consulate is calling a ‘working visit’ by the Philippine head of state.

During his speech at the J.W. Marriott, Aquino talked about his administration’s accomplishments in bringing about economic progress for the Philippines.  He was, of course, referring to the economic progress for the rich,  not the 99% of middle class and poor Filipinos.

But the bigger issue was that Aquino delivered his speech in Tagalog which 90% of his audience didn’t understand because they were Americans or Filipino Americans who didn’t speak the language.

Aquino is known for delivering his speech in Tagalog.

Reacting to criticism from non-Tagalog speaking Filipino Americans, Aquino said, “You don’t matter to me. You are not Philippine voters.  You’re not my bosses.”

Aquino is famous for referring to the Filipino  voters as his bosses.

A Filipino American commented on his Facebook page that Aquino’s ‘working visit’ was merely to justify his trip to Las Vegas to watch the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight.

The Adobo Chronicles could not independently confirm if Aquino was, indeed, present at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to personally witness the “Fight of the Century.”

HOW TO GET A LICENSE IN STATES THAT BAN SAME-SEX MARRIAGE, ACCORDING TO MILEY CYRUS

DALLAS, Texas (The Adobo Chronicles) – Same-sex marriage is now legal in 37 states.  So what can a gay couple do to get a marriage license in a state like Texas?  Singer Miley Cryrus has the answer.

Cyrus has managed to raise lots of eyebrows when she went public about her sexuality. She does not have any gender identity.  Short of calling herself genderqueer,  Cyrus said “I kind of wanted to be nothing. I don’t relate to what people would say defines a girl or a boy.”

In other words, ‘decline to state.’

In California and other states, any voter who does not identify with either the Republican or Democratic Party can mark the box, “decline to state’ in the voter registration form.

“You can do the same when filling out the marriage license application,” Cyrus said.  Where it asks for the name of the groom or the bride, Cyrus’ advice is to just cross it out, write your name and add ‘decline to state’ beside it.

“By doing so, the state cannot discriminate against you since technically, your marriage is gender neutral and will not be in violation of any ban against same-sex marriage,” she added.

So if you are a gay couple wanting to get married in one of the 13 non-equality states, you don’t have to wait for the any ruling on same-sex marriage cases now pending with the U.S. Supreme Court.

You can get married now!

THE ADOBO CHRONICLES’ BATHROOM TISSUE CHALLENGE: HOW MANY SHEETS IN YOUR ROLL, AND WHO’S COUNTING?

TISSUE

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – When you buy a six-pack of beer or a pay for a dozen eggs, you’d expect to get the exact number of items you paid for, right?

So let’s talk about your roll of bathroom tissue. It’s easy to tell between single-ply and a double-ply, but how do you know exactly how many sheets there are in your roll? Count them!

Here at The Adobo Chronicles, we believe in honest business practices as well as ‘truth in advertising.’

Many bathroom tissue brands tell you exactly how many sheets there are in every roll you buy. Just read the labels in the package.

But what if your favorite bathroom tissue brand has been shortchanging you all this time?

So here’s our challenge:

Take one roll of your bathroom tissue and count the sheets one by one to see if you have the exact number of sheets as indicated in the label or package.  Then take a picture of another roll of your bathroom tissue showing the brand and post it on your Facebook or Instagram account with your comment on whether you indeed have the correct number of sheets per roll. Make sure to include the hash tags #TheAdoboChronicles and #BathroomTissueChallenge in your posts so we can monitor all responses to this challenge.

(We counted the number of sheets in a roll for the Big Roll Bathroom Tissue, pictured above.  It passed the challenge! The roll had exactly 1,000 individual sheets!)

Oh, and in the best interest of recycling, do not throw away your counted individual sheets. Place them in a resealable plastic bag and save them for the holidays to use as a cushion when shipping fragile gift items to your family and friends.
