CALIFORNIA DMV RECALLS PERSONALIZED LICENSE PLATE OF THE ADOBO CHRONICLES

imageSAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Company vehicles like those of television stations, hotels, airport shuttles or even Google are marked with painted logos or personalized (vanity) licensed plates.  Even The Adobo Chronicles  has its special license plate, ‘My Adobo’ on its company car used to transport its reporters covering events and breaking news.

While anyone in California can pay extra money to get a less boring personalized vehicle license plate, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) employs a three-person license plate police team that monitors, approves or cancels vanity license plates that may  be offensive, racist or insensitive.

Last month, the DMV cancelled the license plate of a Southern California driver after grasping its double meaning: ‘NOT SEE.’ The other meaning was, of course, anti-Semitic.

The three-person team, which reviewed more than 100,000 orders for vanity  plates last year, rejects about 25 applications a day — requests like “BUBEEEE,” “BURN 01” and “M16 GRL” that run afoul of prohibitions on references to guns, drugs and certain body parts.

Today, The Adobo Chronicles  received a demand letter from DMV asking us to surrender our license plate, ‘My Adobo.’

The letter didn’t exactly say what was offensive about our special license plate, but when we called DMV, they said our license plate was offensive to many non-Filipinos who are vegetarian, vegan or who are allergic to the smell of garlic and vinegar.  Adobo is the Philippines’ national dish consisting of chicken or pork that’s simmered in a mixture of soy sauce, vinegar and garlic.

As a law-abiding company based in the California, we absolutely want to adhere to government regulations and decisions, so we are asking our loyal readers and followers to suggest a new license plate that will be less offensive to non-Filipinos in America.

WHO’S PERFORMING (AND WHO’S NOT) DURING THE PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER FIGHT ON MAY 2

Clockwise: Pacquiao, Kimmel, Banawis, Foxx

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – The stage is all set for the ‘Fight of the Century’ between Filipino Manny Pacquiao and American Floyd Mayweather.  The much-anticipated boxing match happens on Saturday, May 2, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Today,  it was announced that American singer-actor Jamie Foxx will sing the U.S. National Anthem while Filipino American Gail Banawis will render the Philippine Nation Anthem.

Foxx is billed to star as Mike Tyson in his upcoming biopic and  co-starred alongside Will Smith the 2001 film,  Ali. He also performed “America, the Beautiful” before a Pacquiao fight in 2011 .

Banawis will perform with a group of singing pastors who are closely affiliated with the boxing icon. She has made a name for herself performing in front of Fil-Am communities in New York and New Jersey. It was Pacquiao himself who reached out to her and asked her if she could be part of the choir that would sing “Lupang Hinirang.”

Pacquiao’s Entrance Song

Previously, the Pacquiao camp wanted Manny to enter the ring to a song he himself recorded – ‘Lalaban Ako Para Sa Pilipino’ (I will fight for the Filipinos).

But after much cajoling and persistence, TV late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will now do the honors of singing Manny’s song live at the MGM Grand.

Pacquiao gave his  approval during his appearance at last night’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ where the host demonstrated to the boxer that he knows the song well and will be very honored to be in Pacquiao’s entourage. (See video of Kimmel and Pacquiao’s duet below)

Teenage singing idol Justin Bieber is also expected to  be at ringside.  He is known to be an avid fan and supporter of Mayweather. Sources close to Mayweather said that Bieber wanted to sing “America the Beautiful,” during intermission, but the boxing promoters refused on the grounds that Bieber is not American. (He is Canadian).

PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS: MANNY PACQUIAO VS. DINGDONG DANTES IN 2022

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – He has yet to formally announce his choice for his party’s candidate for the 2016 Philippine presidential elections, but already, President NoyNoy Aquino has ‘annointed’ his 2022 choice for president — Actor Dingdong Dantes.

Dantes, who recently married fellow actor Marian Rivera in what was billed a ‘Royal Wedding,’ is 34 years old and is ineligible to run for president in 2016. The miniimum age to run for president is 40. Aquino was the Best Man during the Dantes-Rivera wedding.

The actor is on the short list of the Liberal Party’s senatorial slate for 2016.

Champion boxer Manny Pacquiao, 36, had previously announced his intention to run for president. Like Dantes, Pacquiao is not qualified to run in 2016 because he is under-age. But the boxer is already an elected congressman, representing his province of Sarangani. He ran under the banner of the Nacionalista Party.

Fast forward to 2022. Dantes vs. Pacquiao for Philippine president.
