WALMART WILL PAY BELOW MINIMUM WAGE BEGINNING NEXT YEAR, CEO SAYS

Bentonville, Arkansas (The Adobo Chronicles) – Last October, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon announced future plans regarding wages at the big box giant chain store so that no worker is paid the federally mandated minimum of $7.25 an hour.

In an interview on Wednesday morning, he appeared to have set himself a deadline of early 2015 for this change.

“We’re going to make changes in a few months that will create a situation where no Walmart associate in the United States makes federal minimum wage,” McMillon told ‘CBS This Morning’ co-host Charlie Rose in a rare, fairly wide-ranging sit-down discussion.

McMillon, who at 48 is the youngest CEO of Walmart since founder Sam Walton, agreed with Rose’s assertion that the perception of Walmart — as a low-wage, dead-end employer, doubtlessly — differs from the reality of the business he runs.

McMillon’s announcement angered thousands of Walmart associates who, along with their allies in the labor movement, have been protesting working conditions and wages at the world’s largest private employer for the last three years. “Now we’ll even be paid below the federal wage,” they said in protest.

It was, of course, a misunderstanding of what McMillon said during the interview. What he really wanted to say was that no Walmart employee will be paid the minimum wage and that instead, they will be paid above the minimum wage.

It looks like McMillon’s communications manager is  not doing a good job.

BRITS CRY FOUL: ‘LEBRON JAMES WAS INAPPROPRIATE WITH KATE MIDDLETON’

London, Great Britain (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Brits are furious over the fact that American basketball player LeBron James  acted inappropriately with Kate Middleton in New York Monday night.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended an NBA basketball game  in Brooklyn and James broached royal etiquette by putting his arm around Middleton in a post-game selfie.

Royal etiquette expert William Hanson said James was too touchy feely with the British royalty and that it even made it worse that he appeared in a sweaty top. ” A shower would have been preferable,”  Hanson said.

Earlier in the game, Prince William and Kate met Jay-Z and Beyonce and shook hands.

The Adobo Chronicles  contacted Hanson in London and asked him why the uproar over James when in the past, First Lady Michelle Obama put her arm around Queen Elizabeth  during a visit to the royal palace.

“Well, that’s different,” Hanson said, “Michelle Obama is First Lady which is practically the U.S. equivalent of British Royalty. Besides, I’m sure Mrs. Obama had showered before meeting with the queen,” Hanson pointed out.

Good point.

Silicon Valley (The Adobo Chronicles) – Where do Millennials — those who achieved adulthood beginning in the year 2000 — get their news?

The results of a nationwide survey of American Millennials conducted by the Bookings Institute may surprise you.

While the poll came back with some facts most people already knew, a few findings may be hard to believe.

As  for social media, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram remain the top venues where Millennials hang out. No surprises there.

However, the survey revealed these shocking trends which could have a great impact on the informed citizenry of the future:

  • Millennials don’t tune in to real news like The Colbert Report or The Daily Show.
  • They don’t tune in to fake news shows like FOX News either.
  • They are confused as to whether CNN is a real or fake news source.
  • 98% of Millennials have never heard of LinkedIn.
  • More than 65% of respondents think that The Washington Post is run by the U.S. Postal Service.
  • Majority  believe that The New York Times is the same as Playbill, the program pamphlet distributed at all Broadway shows.
  • Majority think that Public broadcasts should be free and accessible to all Americans, especially Millennials; so Netflix should be free.
  • 80% believe that Comcast is the same as Chromecast, so cable subscription should only cost a one-time fee of $35.
