U.S. ANNOUNCES ‘NO VISA’ POLICY FOR FILIPINOS

Washington, D.C. – The State Department today announced a life-changing new policy for Filipinos. Visas will no longer be required to travel to the United States. The policy to take the Philippines off the list of countries whose citizens are required to obtain visas for travel to the U.S. is effective immediately.

The new policy comes on the heels of a recent survey showing that an overwhelming majority of Filipinos have a favorable view of the United States. The Philippines ranked first in a global survey on the image of the United States worldwide, beating even the U.S. itself when it comes to a favorable view on the American people.

According to the 2013 Global Attitudes Project of the Pew Research Center in Washington DC, the Philippines got an 85 percent score, the highest, when people were asked “Do you have a favorable or unfavorable view of the US?”

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that the State Department made this monumental decision as a way to reward the Filipinos for making the U.S. really look good in the survey.

With this new policy, the U.S. is now added to the list of 25 countries which do not require travel visas for Filipinos. These countries include most of the Philippines’ Southeast Asian neighbors as well as some countries in Latin America including Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru and Bolivia.

The “no visa” policy comes just in time for the visit to the Philippines later this month by U.S. President Barack Obama.

UPDATE: Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Manila asked that Filipinos refrain from calling the consular office to avoid its phone system from crashing.  Instead, people are being asked to download and complete the biographical form and submit it to the embassy, along with four 2×2 colored ‘selfie’ photos at least one week before they depart for the U.S.  The biographical form will be filed by the embassy for reference  just in case Filipinos overstay in the U.S.  The no-visa policy for Filipinos is good for 60 days stay in all states except Alaska.

  2. too bad its a hoax. I am a US citizen, who has known my Filipino girlfriend 2 years now, I have been here in singapore where she has been employed, for 9 months. Today she had her visa interview( only asking a tourist visa for temporary stay, then we both will live in Philippines) . A chinese lady did her interview, only asked why she wanted to stay awhile, then denied her visa on the grounds that she did not show enough proof she has family ties to her own country that she would willingly return. Really, thats stupid, an address, children and 100 family members there is not enough..I am very mad right now

My advice to some people is: wag tatanga-tanga at basahin mabuti ang artikulo and the website where it was posted if it is a satirical piece or not. It’s that simple.

It would be funny, but we have close ties with the Philippines, and the bullshit we got going on the immigration in this fucking country right now, why the fuck would the Philippines not believe it? Well you knew damn well they would! Knowing that that is just fucking totally wrong, nothing cool about it one fucking bit! It’s one thing to fucking joke about shit, and make lite of stuff that’s not so wonderful, and make people laugh, this was not the case, you fucking crossed the line with this one, you knew what they would believe, and knew why they would believe it, trust me karma does not discriminate.

  9. Hey writer, can I just say, how about you research a bit more on what a satire is. What do you wish to expose here? What’s your intention? It seems like all you’re doing is riding the dick of the latest news issues to create a hoax to get more hits. What you’re doing isn’t anything literary, it is blatant creation of lies for hits, matched with misleading titles and articles.

    satire |ˈsatʌɪə|
    noun [ mass noun ]
the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

A satire is meant to bring about an issue through forward humour that highlights and exaggerates the issue’s different facets. This article just doesn’t do anything for anyone but give them false hopes, proliferate lies, create a frenzy of outrageous shares and in the end dumb down the Filipino people by feeding them shit.

So, Mr/Ms Writer, go learn how to write properly first.

    P.S.
To all the people who said/will say “Eh ganun yung sinusulat dito, eh. Satire nga, diba? Magbasa ka,” please don’t feel like a smart ass cause you know “it’s a satire”.

Alam mo kung bakit maraming bobo na inaakala nilang totoo ‘to? Kasi binobobo niyo rin sila.

Knowing that your writing gets around gives you that responsibility to be tasteful in the way you present your “satires”. This article, specifically, is just made in bad taste.

      1. I totally agree. Lagi na ako nagbabasa dito for its satire. I just had to comment ngayon dahil sumosobra na yung pagkalat nyan dito sa U.S., in my opinion foul na ‘tong article.

Tuwing may magulang or OFW dito na binabanggit itong news, ine-explain ko lagi sa kanila na satire lang ito. Obviously, hindi nila alam kung ano ang satire. And it’s heartbreaking tuwing ine-explain ko sila, I always see the disappointed look on their faces. Because they haven’t seen their children or relatives for years. This only gave them false hopes.

If you’re going to argue about “tolerating” stupidity, tingin niyo ba may oras ang mga magulang or OFWs dito para matutunan ang mga ‘to? Nope. They’re all busy working their asses off for their children. And mind you, most are AWARE that they are uneducated, and they don’t want their youth to suffer the same fate as them.

Ang lungkot lang na yung very same youth na iyon, they look at these hardworking OFWs condescendingly. Bago kayo mag-complain about the flaws of people, alamin niyo muna yung mga sitwasyon nila.

If they don’t know, it’s the job of the educated people to educate them. Not mock them. (Yes, I am aware that this is a satirical site, pero mali lang talaga na-target netong article na ‘to.)

Ang ironic lang na kung sino pa yung mga smart ass diyan, sila yung talagang ignorante sa mga nangyayari. Hypocrites.

  11. I know a lot of people are taking issue with this article being seen as a cruel hoax because of its subject matter. I don’t believe that was the intention of this site. I believe the intention was satire. But honestly, I don’t think that was well executed.

You do a good job of emulating the writing of legitimate news stories but that’s not what makes a satire. It’s the use of humor in order to comment on society. Usually news satire is identifiable in the title of the article alone. Your “joke” or “wink” to the reader didn’t come until the 4th paragraph in the section about “making the U.S. really look good in the survey.” The next joke (the selfie one, which I admit was kind of funny) wasn’t until the Update section which I’m assuming was added later after a frenzy ensued. Where is the rest of the humor?

Clearly you picked a hot button topic that Filipinos will be baited to read about. And it has been discussed online on whether Filipinos understand satire. Despite all of that, I could have still gotten board with clever commentary. I just don’t see much here.

If your intention was simply to up your readership, then you succeeded. If your intention was to write effective satire, then you didn’t. Not because your audience didn’t get it. I just don’t think you gave it to them.

    1. Hundreds of Filipinos all day line up to apply for a visa to come to the US and a vast majority do not make it (around 9 out of 10 applicants). It is very disheartening and very unreasonable; and many of whom have genuine intent to return home. I have been to an interview twice just to get denied twice; my third try was simply a good luck since the school I was going to happen to be where the interviewer also went to school and we had a great informal conversation during the interview. I was applying for an F-1 student visa back then. I have seen not-so-lucky people cry in front of the consular officer begging for a visa. So when one comes up with an insensitive news or blog like this one, it is really not very nice. Please let us be sensitive to other people. To the author of this one, I would rather devote my writing to something that is useful and appreciable.

      1. Just what are you trying to justify? Very insensible. Skepticism has never been a crime, consequences thereafter might be. However, you just failed to realize what takes place during a chain reaction (in this case, a fabricated satirical hoax). If this hoax really originated in this site, then those “who received it first through access to this site hold the largest responsibility” as opposed to a certain group of people that you’re trying to blame and falsify. I won’t even be surprised if you regarded them as ignorant fools because you think they have been easily swayed without introspecting the content of the said hoax. I also believe that you have entirely forgotten the process by how first-hand information (I would prefer saying first-hand/primary hoax) is being passed and eventually become a secondary source, and so on. Did you really assume that most Filipinos who have heard about these news actually knew where it came from? A phone conversation between an overjoyed middle-aged man and his older sister, did you really believe, somewhere along the conversation there would be lines like “oo, galing sa adobo chronicles (yes, it’s from adobo chronicles). Admit it, it’s quite common to disregard first-hand source during daily conversations, or are you trying to suggest the majority of Filipinos as ignorant as what you have “hinted” in your previous post? Information doesn’t always reliably travel across world and people with no deviations, some oral manifestations will intervene, so you don’t actually need to bear that tone, trying to justify things when you yourself didn’t actually broaden your horizon to analyze the simplicity of this particular issue.

I apologize for any offensive comments that I might have said (though there’s none really) but I won’t apologize for any false logic that you have stated of which I deemed incorrect

I know that this is a touchy subject pero it’s not different from emails you get that you won a million bucks. The internet is a free market of ideas and information and some people post satires and jokes and false information. You won’t jump for joy when a stranger tells you that you can go to the airport and fly to the US for free at this very moment right?
