SUPER BOWL XLIX NIXES ROMAN NUMERALS IN NEW LOGO

ssuperbowlGlendale, Arizona (The Adobo Chronicles) – Super Bowl XLIX, the 49th edition of the Super Bowl is scheduled to be played on February 1, 2015, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home of the Arizona Cardinals.

Two major announcements were made today regarding the Super Bowl:  Katy Perry as the half-time show performer, and a new Super Bowl logo.

Survey after survey have shown that 90 percent of Americans can’t read Roman numerals, so starting with the  2015 Super Bowl, the Roman numerals will be substituted with regular numbers.  Hence Super Bowl XLIX will now be known as Super Bowl 50-10+10-1.  Here is how the new logo will look like:

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS WILL MAKE IT UP TO FILIPINOS AT THE SUPERBOWL

imageSeattle, Washington – NFC Champions Seattle Seahawks have a lot of making up to do, and it’s not with the San Francisco 49ers, but with Filipinos.

In their season game against the Minnesota  Vikings late last year, the Seahawks attempted to show the world their humanitarian concern by having Doug Baldwin, who is part Filipino, carry the Philippine flag as the team entered the stadium. It was a show of solidarity with the Filipino people following Typhoon Haiyan which killed thousands and left thousands more injured and homeless.  There was one problem: Baldwin carried the Philippine flag upside down with the red stripe on top. The red stripe on top, instead of the blue, meant that the Philippines was at war which, clearly, it was not.

Now that the Seahawks are in the Superbowl, they announced that they will reprise their criticized entrance when they enter the New York stadium. This time, Baldwin will carry the Philippine flag the correct way, with the blue stripe on top.

One hundred million Filipinos will be watching. Go Seahawks!

MAYOR ED LEE DECLARES ‘DAY OF SILENCE’ IN SAN FRANCISCO

imageSan Francisco, California – Following the disappointing loss by the San Francisco 49ers to the Seattle Seahawks, Mayor Ed Lee signed an executive order declaring Tuesday, January 21 as a “Day of Silence” in San Francisco.

Lee said that this will give 49er fans the much-needed time to  process their team’s failure to earn a spot in this year’s Superbowl and to recuperate from all the shouting, cheering and screaming that marked Sunday’s NFC championship game.

All city and county offices will be closed on Tuesday, making it a four-day weekend for most San Franciscans.  Monday is also a holiday, being Martin Luther King Day.

San Francisco’s  City Hall which in the past week has been illuminated with the red and gold colors, will go completely dark starting at midnight Sunday until midnight Tuesday.
