POPE FRANCIS WANTS TO MEET WITH DONALD TRUMP DURING U.S. VISIT

imageHAVANA, Cuba (The Adobo Chronicles® )  –  Pope Francis arrives in the U.S. on Tuesday for a six-day visit during which he will meet with President and Mrs. Obama, address a joint session of Congress, speak before the United Nations General Assembly and attend a huge Catholic family assembly in Philadelphia.

Despite his very tight schedule, the Pope says he would like to meet with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to discuss issues of immigration which has been at the forefront of the real estate mogul’s campaign.

Speaking in his native Spanish, Pope Francis told reporters: “Me gustaría mucho para reunirse con Donald Trump para darle un poco de charla sobre los migrantes y la inmigración y para darle un poco de nalgadas .” (I would very much like to meet with Donald Trump to give him a little lecture about migrants and immigration and to give him a little spanking.)

Trump has not responded to the Pope’s request but is expected to make time to meet with the Holy Father as a way to win the votes and support of the estimated 76 Million Catholic voters in the U.S.

Trump is Presbyterian but  even a solid vote from the denomination’s 1.7 Million members will not assure him of the Republican nomination or the presidency.

PHILIPPINES’ VICE PRESIDENT OFFERS OFFICIAL PALACE RESIDENCE TO REFUGEE FAMILIES

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Pope Francis recently urged Christians across Europe to open up their homes to refugees as he revealed that the Vatican will take in two families “fleeing death” in the middle east.

Following the Pope’s example, Philippine Vice President Jejomar Binay offered his official residence — the Coconut Palace — to eight refugee families from Syria.  Each family will occupy one of the eight guestrooms in the palace.

The Coconut Palace, also known as Tahanang Pilipino (Filipino Home), is a mansion of the Philippine Government on the campus of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, in Manila, the Philippines. It was commissioned in 1978 by former First Lady Imelda Marcos as a government guest house. It was offered to Pope John Paul II during the Papal visit to the Philippines in 1981 but the Pope refused to stay there because it was too opulent given the level of poverty in the Philippines.

It cost 37 million Philippine pesos to build. It is owned by the government-owned and controlled corporation the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS). In 2011, it became the official residence and principal workplace of the vice president.

A devout Catholic,  Binay challenged President NoyNoy Aquino to do a similar humanitarian act by opening the presidential palace, Malacañang, to refugees.

“During times of calamity, the world community has come to the aid of the Filipino people,” the vice president said . “Now it is our turn to help those in need, especially the refugees from Syria.”

Shortly after making the announcement, Binay’s poll numbers in the 2016 presidential race jumped by almost double.  He is now tied with Senator Grace Poe, who still has to officially declare her candidacy.  Aquino’s anointed candidate, former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas is still in a very distant third place in the polls.

SARAH PALIN: ‘POPE FRANCIS MUST SPEAK AMERICAN WHEN HE VISITS THE U.S.’

imageWASILLA, Alaska (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – In an interview with CNN last week, former Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin said that Spanish-speaking people must speak American while here in the U.S. And that includes Pope Francis.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church is scheduled to visit the United States on September 22-27, during which he will meet with President and Mrs. Obama, address a joint session of Congress, deliver a speech before the United Nations General Assembly and keynote a huge religious gathering in Philadelphia.

The Argentinian pontiff has said time and again that he is not comfortable speaking in English.  Spanish is his native language.

So when Francis presides over a mass in Washington, D.C. on September 23, he is going to say it in Spanish, according to Cardinal Donald William Wuerl. “It is also in honor of the huge U.S. Hispanic population and the Catholic Church’s advocacy of immigration,” the Cardinal said.

That didn’t sit well with Palin who was baptized a Catholic but began attending non-denominational Christian churches when she was young. At the age of 12, Palin was baptized in the Wasilla Assembly of God, a Pentecostal church whose preacher bordered on fundamentalist.

“While I appreciate the fact that Spanish is the Pope’s first language, I believe that as I previously stated, he should speak American while in America,” Palin said.
