Philippines To Launch Its First-Ever Satellite, But There Is One Problem

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –  The Philippines will see the launching of its first-ever satellite in April this year, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Mario Montejo said yesterday. The schedule was set after the DOST firmed up the arrangements with an American provider of space shuttle services on which the “micro satellite” would be launched.

Filipino scientists from the DOST are now in Japan, collaborating with space scientists from Hokkaido University, in the assembly of the micro satellite. Though the assembly is now getting much assistance from Japanese scientists, Montejo said the Filipinos are doing the actual design and fabrication activities.

The micro satellite will be a key component of the cutting edge remote sensing technology capability being developed by the DOST, which will use satellite imagery and ground data processing to generate data and information on agricultural and also marine and mountain conditions.

There is, however, one big problem.

The Philippine micro satellite’s planned and designated orbit in space has already been claimed by China as part of the latter’s continuing territorial expansionist policy.  China has vowed to protect and defend its space territory against any intruders, the Philippines included.

It looks like the Philippines-China territorial dispute in the South China Sea has been launched into space!

Philippines Cuts Diplomatic Ties With Colombia Over Miss Universe Fiasco (Video)

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Since July  5, 1946, the Philippines has had a great diplomatic relationship with Colombia, with foreign embassies established by both countries locally. But it took one despicable act on the part of some Colombians for the Philippines to immediately sever its ties with the South American country.

On New Year’s eve, while most people around the world were lighting up fireworks to welcome 2016, some Colombian sore losers chose to light up the Philippines’ Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Miss Universe, and pageant host Steve Harvey.  Well, not them in person, but their effigies.

The group of Colombians can’t seem to get over the fact that their representative to the recent Miss Universe Pageant, despite being temporarily crowned Miss Universe, was, in reality, the first runner-up.  Harvey misread the cue card and announced that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez had won the crown only to correct himself minutes later to say that Wurtzbach was the actual winner.

Filipinos are a loving, hospitable and laid-back people, but when it comes to their beauty queens, it’s a different story. Anyone or any country that humiliates or offends their Filipina pageant title holders will certainly suffer severe consequences. Yes, even the cutting of diplomatic ties.

As of press time, the Colombian embassy in Quezon City was still occupied by their diplomats. They are still processing the shocking news they received from the Philippine Foreign Affairs Department.

Philippine President Aquino Proud Of His Greatest Legacy: Beauty Pageant Crowns

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s 2016 and Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino has delivered his last New Year’s message to the Filipino people.  His term ends in June after his successor is elected in the upcoming May presidential elections.

Like most heads of state, Aquino outlined his administration’s accomplishments and in no uncertain terms, he listed his top legacy as the grand slam of international beauty pageant crowns that the Philippines has achieved, especially in 2015.

In the year just passed, the Philippines won six international beauty pageant crowns: Miss Universe, Miss Globe, Miss Earth, Miss Scuba International, Miss International Beauty, and Miss Tourism Queen of the Year.

“Sa ilalim ng aking administrasyon, nakamit na natin and pinakamimithi nating karangalan bilang pangunahing bansa sa pandaigdigang timpalak kagandahan.” he said. (Under my administration, we have achieved our goal and honor of being the leading country in the field of world beauty contests).

In addition to the 2015 crowns, the Philippines also won the coveted titles of Miss World, Miss International, Miss Supranatipnal, not to mention the country’s consistent standing in international pageants as among the top 10, and oftentimes top 5, finalists.  And these all happened under the Aquino administration.

Aquino is known to many as a connoisieur of beauty and was once rumored to be dating Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, the newly-crowned Miss Universe.
