KRIS AQUINO ACCEPTS ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE, IN STYLE

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taken the U.S. by storm, and in style.

Bill Gates built his own backyard rope and pulley mechanism to douse himself with a bucket of ice. LeBron James took the challenge aboard a yacht. Lady Gaga used a pure silver bucket in place of plastic.

Now, the runaway social media campaign originally intended to create greater ALS awareness and raise money for ALS research has crossed the Pacific and has made landfall in the Philippines.

Filipino celebrities are beginning to take up the challenge. Tony Award-winning singer Lea Salonga is among the latest to accept the challenge. In her Facebook page, she has asked her fans for suggestions on who to challenge next. Kris Aquino’s name came up of course.

In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Aquino, the sister of Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino, said that she will gladly accept the challenge from Salonga or anyone else – whichever comes first.

But Aquino wants to accept the challenge in style and doesn’t want to be outdone by the American celebrities. She says she will douse herself with a yellow bucket of ice in the front lawn of Malacañang palace (the official presidential residence in Manila), wearing a yellow raincoat. Yellow is the official color of the political opposition in the Philippines which started during the time of the late President Cory Aquino.

“By wearing a yellow raincoat, I will be hitting the bird with three stones,” she said. “First, I will fulfill the Ice Bucket Challenge. Second, I will be promoting a possible second presidential term for my brother. Third, I will not ruin my new short hair style.”

Asked if she knew what ALS stood for, she quickly retrieved her smart phone from her yellow purse, logged on to Wikipedia, and proudly said “Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis!”

PRESIDENT AQUINO TO POLITICIANS: CAMPAIGNING FOR 2016 CAN WAIT TILL AFTER CHA-CHA

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – President Aquino on Monday criticized the politicians who are already gearing up for the 2016 Philippine presidential elections.

In his speech during the inauguration of a bridge and a connecting road network in Cagayan province, Aquino said talks on the next elections can wait. He said politicians should right now focus on solving the problems of the country.

Among the politicians who have been talking with the media about the 2016 polls lately was Vice President Jejomar Binay, the front-runner in the presidential surveys.

In an interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Aquino said that Binay and other presidential aspirants should at least wait until a constitutional convention is held to amend the law to allow the president to have a second six-year term.

Under the current constitution, the president is limited to one, six-year term which expires in 2016.

Aquino’s allies in Congress have been pushing to convene a constitutional convention, more popularly known in the country as Cha-Cha, to amend the law and allow Aquino to stay on as president beyond 2016.  Aquino seems to be warming up to the idea.

“If the campaigning starts now, it seems I will be at a disadvantage. Let’s wait until after the constitution is amended to allow me to run for another term,” Aquino said.”It’s a matter of fairness,” he added.

SOUTH KOREA’S BUTTY CONTEST (PARENTAL GUIDANCE ADVISED)

Seoul, South Korea (The Adobo Chronicles) –  The Philippines might be the beauty contest capital of the world, but South Korea has emerged as the butty contest capital of the world. Now, that wasn’t a typo. It really is ‘butty.’

Just recently, the Miss South Korea beauty pageant was criticized for its line-up of contestants who, by face standards, seemed to all look alike, thanks to the country’s propensity for plastic surgery, especially by the women.

In an effort to move away from its reputation as the plastic surgery capital of the world — per capita basis — South Korea has come up with a different kind of beauty contest that does not involve facial looks. Instead, the emphasis is on the posterior.

Aptly titled, “Sexy Back Contest ” the women are judged based on the beauty of their behinds. The contestants are made to wear masks to ensure that they are judged not on the basis of their looks.

The first-ever butty contest was held in Seoul, featuring guest performer Justin Timberlake who sang his hit song “SexyBack” during the final segment of the pageant.

Franchise holders of various Philippine beauty pageants have reportedly scheduled an emergency meeting this weekend to strategize on how to unseat South Korea  from the new world title.

Let’s hope the Filipinos will not resort to anything frontal.
