DORAL, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles) – Two contestants in this month’s Miss Universe Beauty Pageant in Doral, Florida, are getting all the media attention, albeit for the wrong reasons.

Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa and Miss Colombia Paulina Vega have been rumored to dislike each other from the moment they both set foot in Doral.

Just yesterday, following the first public appearance of the Miss Universe candidates, the Internet and media gossip columns were abuzz with many nasty rumors, among them:

  • Miss Colombia doesn’t want to be photographed with Miss Philippines.
  • Miss Colombia thinks that Miss Philippines likes to hang out with candidates from Africa so she could ‘stand out.’
  • Miss Colombia was seen rolling her eyes when she saw Miss Philippines come out of the dressing room in her glittering gold evening gown.
  • Miss Philippines’ smart phone has an English-Spanish dictionary app so she could spy on conversations among the Latin America contestants who are the biggest threat to her quest for the Miss Universe crown.
  • If she ends up being in the top five finalists, Miss Philippines will answer the final question in Spanish.
  • It is rumored that there are two lesbian Miss Universe candidates this year. Many are wondering if those two were Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines.

The Adobo Chronicles caught up with Miss Philippines shortly before she boarded the bus that took the contestants back to their hotel after their first public appearance. She denied — in no uncertain terms —  all the rumors about her and Miss Colombia. “They are positively, absolutely, literally and figuratively untrue,” she said.

When Lastimosa turned her back to board the bus, our reporter heard her say, “that b*tch”

It wasn’t clear whether Miss Philippines said that about Miss Colombia or our reporter.

MANNY PACQUIAO’S MOM WANTS TO REPLACE HIM AS JUDGE IN MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT

DORAL, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles) – The 63rd Miss Universe Pageant will be held on January 25, 2015, at the US Century Bank Arena at Florida International University in Doral, Florida.

Who will succeed reigning Miss Universe Gabriela Isler of Venezuela? That final decision will be in the hands of a distinguished international panel of judges.

Unconfirmed reports say that Filipino world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has been invited to be one of the judges. Pacquiao is not only a boxer; he is a basketball coach and player, a music lover (Karaoke), a one-star general in the Philippines Armed Forces, an elected Congressman, and a connoiseur of beauty.

The only thing that is preventing Pacquiao from accepting the invitation is his mom’s demand to Miss Universe Pageant owner Donald Trump that she replace her son as judge. “I am more qualified than Manny to judge beauty and talent, and I have an equally recognized status as an international celebrity,” the mom, popularly known as Mommy Dionisia, told reporters in Manila.

Trump will make a decision in the coming days.

As the pageant’s season is heating up, there have been the early crowd favorites named including Miss USA Nia Sanchez, Miss India Noyonita Lodh, Miss Brazil Melissa Gurgel, and Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa.

As of the moment, Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa garners the most likes and shares on the official Facebook page of Miss Universe. The contestant has been loudly recognized on the social media for being ‘such an advocate for peace and humanity’ considering that she grew up on a war-torn province in her country.

Meanwhile, Natalie Morales and Thomas Roberts are appointed as the hosts of the grand event, together with Miss Universe 2013 3rd runner-up Ariella Arida from Philippines as an ‘On the Scene’ insider.

There will be ample Philippines representation at the pageant in Doral — a contestant, a judge, an ‘On the Scene’ commentator and  hundreds of the estimated 21,000 Florida-based Filipinos  who live in the Metropolitan Miami Area.

CAN THE REIGNING MISS WORLD ALSO BECOME MISS UNIVERSE?

Miami, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles) –  On December 14, 2014, Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss was crowned Miss World in London. But unlike in other countries, whomever is chosen Miss South Africa in any given year represents the country in  all major international beauty pageants, including Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Supranational, Miss World and Miss Grand International.

So, when the Miss Universe Pageant is held in Florida next month, Strauss will take to the stage as Miss South Africa, right? Wrong.

Remember what the Miss Universe Pageant hosts always say before announcing the name of the new Miss Universe? “In the event that the new Miss Universe will not be able to fulfill her duties, the first runner-up will automatically  become Miss Universe.”

Ergo, Strauss as the reigning Miss World can’t possibly fulfill her duties as Miss Universe which include traveling and appearing with Miss Universe Pageant owner Donald Trump. So Strauss has been disqualified from the Florida pageant.

Miss South Africa’s 1st runner up, Ziphozakhe Zokufa will take over to represent her country in the Miss Universe Pageant.

After all, Trump, who has a say in who becomes Miss Universe, may have a different type than the Miss World Pageant judges. So a Miss World title holder is not assured of a Miss Universe title.
