MOTHER IGNACIA AVENUE IN QUEZON CITY TO BE RENAMED KRIS AQUINO AVENUE

CaptureQUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – There appears to be an organized conspiracy to keep the name “Aquino” forever instilled in the minds of Filipinos.

In 1987,  the Manila International Airport was renamed Ninoy Aquino International Airport, in honor of the late senator who was gunned down on the airport’s tarmac upon his return from U.S. exile in August of 1983.

In 2011, there was an attempt by the House of Representatives to rename Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) Cory Aquino Avenue. EDSA was the venue of the People Power revolution of 1986, of which Aquino is considered a heroine. The proposal by Rep. Rene Lopez Relampagos never came to fruition.

Two years later, in the 16th Congress, Pampanga Rep. Joseller “Yeng” Guiao filed a proposal to change the name of the Clark International Airport to Corazon C. Aquino Airport, to no avail either.

In May this year, a bill renaming the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) into the President Corazon C. Aquino Expressway (CAEX) was approved by the House committee on public works and highways. House Bill 4820 was filed by Nueva Ecija Rep. Magnolia Rosa Antonio-Nadres.

(It pays to try and try again)

Today, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista signed a city council resolution renaming Mother Ignacia Avenue to Kris Aquino Avenue.  It is the avenue that borders the ABS-CBN broadcast center.

The television netowrk lobbied the city council for the name change, saying it was a fitting tribute to the contributions of their star talk show host, often referred to as “Queen of All Media.”

Aquino has had, and continues to have multiple shows on ABS-CBN, including ‘Kris TV,’ ‘Aquino & Abunda Tonight, and the recently-cancelled ‘The Buzz.”   Aquino was also host of several reality and game shows including “Pilipinas Got Talent,” and ‘Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal.”

“Renaming Mother Iganacia  to Kris Aquino Avenue will make the TV host’s millions of fans very happy,” ABS-CBN said.

In the meantime, there is speculation that the entire stretch of Roxas Boulevard along the famous Manila Bay will be renamed NoyNoy Aquino Boulevard as soon as the president’s term expires in 2016.

In the U.S., libraries are built to honor past presidents.  In the Philippines, major thoroughfares are named after them.

KRIS AQUINO GETS FAILING GRADE IN FILIPINO LANGUAGE; PRESIDENT AQUINO GETS FAILING GRADE FROM U.N.

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  Yesterday, we reported that presidential sister and television host Kris Aquino admitted getting a failing grade in Filipino language during her school days in Manila.

Things always seem to come in two’s.

Today, the United Nations gave her brother President NoyNoy Aquino a failing grade in connection with housing relief for thousands of people made homeless by typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) nearly two years ago.

Haiyan, the strongest-ever storm to make landfall in the Philippines, killed more than 6,300 people and displaced 4.1 million in 2013.yolanda

“Many families remain housed in collective ‘bunkhouses’ that do not meet necessary minimum standards for the provision of basic needs and services,” Chaloka Beyani, U.N. special rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons, said in a news conference in Manila. “I was concerned to learn that funding shortfalls and political challenges, including inadequate cooperation between national and local governments, are delaying processes towards achieving durable solutions.”

Official government records obtained by Reuters showed only 2.5 percent of the targeted 21,012 permanent housing in the worst-hit Eastern Visayas region were ready as of June. The National Housing Authority reported only 542 houses were completed.

About 4,900 houses are in different phases of construction. In two towns on Samar island and six towns on Leyte island, not a single house had been built 20 months after the typhoon struck.

Aquino’s failing grade is in sharp contrast to the laundry list of “accomplishments” he touted during his State of the National Address earlier this week.

We wonder who Aquino is going to blame for his failing grade this time around.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – In her morning show “Kris TV”, presidential sister Kris Aquino revealed to young singer Darren Espanto that she once got a failing grade of 74 in Filipino.

As one would expect, her revelation drew a lot of jeers and negative comments on Philippine social media.

Today, Aquino issued a statement assailing her critics, asking them to “move on.”

Following is her full statement:

“Don’t make too much pansin to what I said on TV. Trinay ko lang na i-emphasize the halaga of learning our national language, di ba? Feel ko na I have a responsibility as a celebrity to make tawag to all our bagets to seriosohin our language. There is nothing mali about admitting that naka gets ako ng failing grade in Filipino. After all, I grew up in the States and didn’t have too many friends that I could make tsismis with. I hope my critics can move on na!”

How would you grade her statement?  Pass or fail?
