Atlanta, Georgia (The Adobo Chronicles) – CNN has added another feather to its cap when one of its news anchors, Don Lemon, received a prestigious recognition from a prestigious journalism entity, the Columbia Journalism Review (CJR).

CJR‘s “Darts & Laurels” blog released its annual “worst” review on Monday, handing out its dubious “DART” awards to outlets like Rolling Stone (for its infamously bungled UVA rape story), CBS’ 60 Minutes (for failing to interview a single local for a piece on African Ebola), and Fox & Friends (for its insensitive jokes following the Ray Rice elevator video).

But CJR reserved the most sought-after award to Lemon for his great contributions to the field of journalism in 2014.  In naming Lemon as “Television New Anchor of the Year,” CJR said:

“On March 20, he asked guests whether Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 could have been swallowed by a black hole: “I know it’s preposterous, but is it preposterous?” He later compared spanking children to training dogs and probed similarities between the release of US Army POW Bowe Bergdahl and the Showtime series Homeland. When an alleged Bill Cosby rape victim appeared on his show on Nov. 18, he lectured, “You know, there are ways not to perform oral sex if you didn’t want to do it…Meaning the use of teeth, right?” Less than a week later, as protests turned violent in Ferguson, MO, he described the scene: “Obviously, there’s a smell of marijuana in the air.”

CNN celebrated the honor with a champagne and cheese reception for Lemon at the penthouse of the cable network’s Atlanta headquarters.

“Next, we hope Don receives a Pulitzer Prize for his great work,” CNN said.

CNN’S DON LEMON ANGERS NRA FOR COMMENT ON COSBY RAPE ACCUSER

imageAtlanta, Georgia (The Adobo Chronicles) – CNN’s controversial anchor Don Lemon is in hot water yet again, this time with the National Rifle Association (NRA).

NRA, the powerful gun lobbyist, is taking Lemon to task for his comments while interviewing Joan Tarshis, one of the women accusing Bill Cosby of rape.

During the live news segment, Lemon suggested that Tarshis could have prevented the alleged rape had she used her weapon during forced oral sex. Lemon was, of course, referring to Tarshis’ teeth.

The comment didn’t sit well with the NRA, accusing Lemon of being a paid spokesperson for anti-gun advocates. “Lemon’s comment could only diminish our argument that citizens need guns to protect themselves from evil elements, including rapists,” an NRA spokesperson said.  The NRA demanded that Lemon retract his comments immediately.

Meanwhile, the American Dental Association has decided to honor Lemon with a lifetime achievement award for the same comments he made about teeth as a weapon.

Here is a transcript of Lemon’s interview with Tarshis:

CNN WANTS TO HIRE RELIGIOUS SCHOLAR AFTER INFAMOUS BIGOTED SEGMENT

Aslan
Aslan

Atlanta, Georgia (The Adobo Chronicles) – After that embarrassing segment in which religious scholar Professor Reza Aslan slammed the bigoted questioning by anchors Don Lemon and Alysin Camerota, CNN says it wants to hire Aslan as a religious consultant.

In that CNN segment, the anchors and Aslan were discussing earlier comments made by Bill Maher on another show criticizing Muslim extremism. Aslan all but lectured Lemon and Camerota who both wouldn’t budge on their line of questioning about whether or not Islam promotes violence.

“It was a segment that we would rather forget,” CNN said, but only after video clips of the interview went viral on the Internet.

CNN said it now acknowledges that Aslan’s breath of knowledge and expetise on the issue of Islam were no match to the limited and simplistic perspective of the anchors. The cable news network added it would like to make up for this gaffe by offering Aslan a consulant position to advise its newsroom about all issues relating to Islam and the Muslim world.

Lemon and Camerota were not pleased with the network’s decision and are seriously  considering jumping ship and moving over to FOX News.
