London, Great Britain (The Adobo Chronicles) – Reigning Miss World Megan Young of the Philippines will have another full year to wear her crown,  Miss World Organisation chairperson and owner Julia Morley announced today.

In announcing the unprecedented decision, Morley said that Ms. Young is by far the most beautiful, talented, eloquent and popular among all title holders, and that the organisation would like to keep her until December 15, 2015.

Although this year’s  pageant, to be held at ExCel London in the British capital, will be staged as scheduled on December 14, the winner will not begin her reign until December of 2015.

Young is the first Filipina to ever win the Miss World Title.

In the history of beauty pageants, many title holders were stripped of their crown for various reasons, but this is the first time that the reign of a title holder has been extended.

Filipinos across the country and overseas rejoiced upon hearing the news, including Cory Quirino, national director of Miss World and Mr. World Philippines.

MOVE OVER HOT COP OF CASTRO, HERE COMES HOT COP OF MANILA

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Forget the Hot Cop of Castro. There’s a new face (and body) that’s causing a lot of heads to turn. And yes, he’s a cop – real cop.

Police Officer 2 (PO2) Mariano Flormata, Jr., a.k.a. Neil Perez, is one of the contestants in a male beauty pageant, Misters of the Philippines 2014. The pageant will be held in Manila this September.

Flormata is no newbie to the runway. His most recent assignment is with the Aviation Security Group at Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 3. Get it? Runway?

He is trained in bomb disposal and aircraft hijacking, so don’t try any tricks on him.

We’ll stop right here and let his pictures do the talking. Oh, and yes, he does have a Facebook page. Not quite 50,000 “likes’ that the Hot Cop of Castro has.  But it’s just a matter of time!

MISS PHILIPPINES FINALIST CRIES FOUL OVER Q&A

Quezon City, Philippines – In most beauty pageants, the answer to the final question can often make or break even the most  beautiful of contestants. The 2014 Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) pageant held last weekend in Quezon City was no exception.

One finalist, in responding to a judge’s question: “Name one thing that you would sacrifice for a (Binibini) crown,” confidently answered: “I think one thing that I would sacrifice for Binibini crown is my shoes.  You know it’s very hard for me to find shoes because I have this very big shoe size.  But for Binibini I will sacrifice this precious thing that I have just to have the crown. Thank you.”  The rest, of course, is history for this aspiring beauty queen.

But the big controversy of the evening came from a complaint from one of the 15 finalists — Contestant No. 8, Pia Wurtzbach.  She happened to pick a senator, Juan Edgardo Angara, to ask the question which he did in Tagalog.  The other 14 finalists were asked their respective questions (and responded) in English.

Wurtzbach who was born in Stuttgart, Germany, didn’t win any of the crowns at stake for the night, and she attributed it to the fact that the senator had asked the question in the national language. “I’m glad that despite my German-sounding name, I proved to all that I am a true Filipina and that I can speak Tagalog quite fluently.”  “However,” she added,” it was not fair that all the other finalists were asked their questions in English.  I’m sure I could have done much better than all the other girls had I been asked the question, and responded, in English.”

Wurtzbach said she has engaged the services of an attorney to see if she could file a lawsuit against Senator Angara for discrimination.

Here is a transcript of the Q&A portion of the pageant.
