IT’S OFFICIAL: ATE VI VS. ATE GUY FOR PHILIPPINE VICE PRESIDENT!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – It’s been a rivalry like no other, as far as Philippine cinema was concerned.  Movie fans were either for actresses Nora Aunor or Vilma Santos.

Well, it looks like that show business rivalry continues into 2016 — in politics — when the presidential elections are held to determine the successors of President NoyNoy Aquino and Vice President Jejomar Binay.

From all indications, Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas is the administration’s choice to succeed Aquino, and Roxas has chosen his vice presidential runningmate, Batangas Governor Vilam Santos. Roxas made his VP choice public today in an event in Batangas.

Not to be outdone, Vice President Binay, long considered to be the frontrunner in the 2016 presidential race (before Senator Grace Poe took over the lead in the most recent polls), announced his choice for vice president — none other than Nora Aunor.

A victory for Aunor would be a vindication for her after Aquino snubbed her in last year’s naming of the National Artists.

In the Philippines, politics and showbusiness are always a perfect match, and this tandem on both the Roxas and Binay camps is no exception.

But don’t discount Senator Grace Poe as yet.  It is rumored that she is about to name actor Dingdong Dantes as her vice presidential runningmate.

Oh, what fun. In the Philippines.

DONALD TRUMP ANGERS ASIANS AND ASIAN AMERICANS

China's Great Wall
China’s Great Wall

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Donald Trump’s disparaging remarks about Mexicans continue to wreak havoc on his business relationships, first with Univision, then NBC Universal, and now Macy’s. All have severed their ties with the presidential candidate.

Now, he has also angered Asians and Asian Americans for proposing to build a “great wall” on the U.S. southern border to keep Mexicans out.

Asians took offense with the comment, saying that Trump practically disrespected one of the world’s greatest wonders — the Great Wall of China — and what it represents.

The Great Wall — or the majority of it — was built during China’s Ming Dynasty, considered one of the greatest eras of orderly government and social stability in human history. “In using a reference to the Great Wall in his misguided tirade against what he believed to be Mexican rapists, drug addicts and criminals, Trump has belittled  a world symbol of greatness, determination and resiliency,” a spokesperson for an Asian American coalition said.

So, not only has Trump lost the Latino vote, but also the Asian American vote. Ironically, a new poll shows Trump surging to second place behind former Florida Governor Jeb Bush in the crowded race for the Republication nomination for president.

Maybe, his message of keeping America free of non-white people is resonating with many conservative voters?

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s official.  Donald Trump is running for president of the United States.

The real estate mogul made the announcement today at the Trump Building in New York City, vowing to make “this country great again.”

The announcement all but ends all speculation about what happens with Trump’s reality TV show, “Celebrity Apprentice” and the 2016 Miss Universe Pageant (which Trump owns).

Speaking to journalists after his candidacy announcement, Trump confirmed that will not sign  a new contract for what would have been another season of “Celebrity Apprentice.”  He also said that he is suspending the Miss Universe Pageant in 2016 in order to focus on his presidential campaign.

The news devastated many Miss Universe hopefuls, including Miss Japan Ariana Miyamoto and Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.

Perhaps if Trump loses the nomination or election (which he will), the 2016 Miss Universe candidates can represent their countries in the 2017 pageant.
