Rowena Guanzon Doesn’t Understand Sarcasm

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – She takes pride in being a good lawyer, a graduate of the University of the Philippines and of Harvard University. She had challenged her critics to a debate, but only if they come from the same universities.

But amid her credentials and tirades against the Marcoses and against all who criticize and make fun of her on Twitter, ex-Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon shows her lack of understanding of satire and sarcasm.

In a Twitter post, she said she’s adding actress Angel Locsin to her wish list for the next Philippine Senatorial elections.

To which a netizen replied in jest to might as well add Kim Chiu, Jim Parades, Ogie Diaz and Ogie Alcacid to her wish list, complete with the appropriate emoticons.

Guanzon’s succeeding comment is classic:

The Adobo Chronicles tried to reach out to Jim Paredes for comment, but we are blocked from his Twitter account.

EXTRA! EXTRA! The World Ends In 8 Days!

by BRIAN NEYRA, AC Senior Geopolitics Correspondent

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – While you all were sleeping on June 21, 2018, a top climate scientist warned that the end of the world will finally happen in 5 years!

This prediction was even tweeted by climate change activist, Swedish Greta Thunberg.

No one listened to the scientist or Thunberg. The use of fossil fuels has not stopped nor diminished.

Now it may be too late. Humanity is finally coming to an end on June 21, 2023, exactly 5 years to the day when the prediction was made.

Heaven bless us all!

Independence Day 2023: Freedom From Grammatical Blunder

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – While the entire Philippine nation was commemorating the 125th Independence Day, the mainstream news media were thinking of breakfast, and perhaps a cup of real strong Barako coffee.

Inquirer, ABS-CBN News and GMA News were all reporting on the Independence Day message of President Bongbong Marcos in which he said, “The heroes of our liberation would be proud to know that we have thrown off the ominous yoke of domination.”

In unison, the news outlets quoted Marcos as having said “yolk.”

The Adobo Chronicles could not independently confirm whether or not the news outlets preferred (egg) yolk from free-range chicken.

“Yoke” is a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plow or cart that they are to pull.
