CNN REPORTS YET ANOTHER MISSING PLANE

lemonAtlanta, Georgia (The Adobo Chronicles) – While search and rescue operations widened over the Java Sea in connection with missing AirAsia Flight QZ8501, CNN is reporting yet another missing plane, this time over the Atlantic Ocean.

Reports are still sketchy, but The Adobo Chronicles has learned that the aircraft in question is the model plane that CNN Anchor Don Lemon used as visual aid during the cable network’s coverage of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in March of this year (see photo).

Neither Lemon nor producers at the CNN Newsroom know the whereabouts of the toy plane, but they have scheduled some aviation experts to discuss the news at tonight’s prime time broadcast.

The toy plane could come very handy as CNN launched a 90-day, 24-coverage of the AirAsia jetliner that has gone missing and is believed to be at the bottom of the Java Sea.

CNN may have to resort to another visual during its ongoing coverage — perhaps some pencil sketches by local Atlanta artists?

TARGET STORE USES THE WRONG ‘ANNIE’ IN ADS FOR NEW CLOTHING LINE

annieMinneapolis, Minnesota (The Adobo Chronicles) – Target, one of the nation’s big box stores, just launched a new girls’ clothing line that it is calling Annie for Target.

The launch was perfectly timed with the showing of the film, Annie in theaters nationwide.  The film stars black actress Quvenzhané Wallis in the title role.

In celebration of the iconic story, Target partnered with Sony Pictures’ “Annie” costume designer, Renée Ehrlich Kalfus, on a collection of girl’s apparel and accessories that captures the essence of the movie’s spirited characters.

There was one big problem:  all the models used in the Target ads were white.

There is speculation on social media that Target refused to use black models for fear that its clothing line will not be patronized by consumers who are upset that the film stars a black instead of Caucasian actress.

Although the Annie character is fictitious, many Americans had always envisioned a white girl playing the role, just like on Broadway and in musical theaters worldwide.

In a statement issued today, Target said “this is not about race” as it prepared to launch another clothing line for adult women, Selma for Target. Its promo ads also features all Caucasian women, and is being launched in connection with the current theater run of another film, Selma, about the legendary Martin Luther King.

MAR ROXAS: THE ADOBO CHRONICLES’ PERSON OF THE YEAR

imageSilicon Valley, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s that time of year when The Adobo Chronicles names its “Person of the Year.”  Last year, we named actor Jackie Chan our person of the year for having survived persistent  news that he had passed away.  Talk about nine lives.

This year, the publisher and editors of The Adobo Chronicles had a fairly easy job of choosing the winner: Philippine Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.

The “Person of the Year” is awarded to the individual or group that has made the most impact on national and international news.  We couldn’t have chosen any other person who has been in the  news as much as Roxas has.

During the aftermath of the worst typhoon to hit the Philippines, Roxas was seen in ground zero overseeing relief operations and giving aid to residents except those who were loyal to his and President Aquino’s political nemesis, the Romualdezes. When there was a shortage of garlic in the Philippines, he was seen carrying a sack of garlic on his shoulder.  When there was rumor about a rice shortage, he was seen  carrying a sack of goverment rice on his shoulder.  When Metro Manila experienced the worst traffic nightmare ever, he was seen directing traffic in one of Manila’s most congested street intersections.  When Metro Manila’s light railway system (MRT) was the subject of intense criticism for its overcrowding, inefficiency and mismagement, Roxas was seen riding the train on non-commute hours.

We couldn’t think of a better person deserving of the Person of the Year title.  It was a great 2014 for Mar Roxas and the Philippines.

And Roxas could just well be the next president of the Philippines! It comes with a bonus: controversial television news anchor Korina Sanchez will be First Lady.
