Senator Grace Poe’s Latest Solution To The EDSA Traffic

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As chair of the Senate Committee on Public Services, Grace Poe has a lot of brilliant ideas to bring about a permanent solution to the nightmarish traffic on EDSA, Metro Manila’s longest and most congested main thoroughfare.

First, she suggested the construction of elevated pedestrian walkways so that Filipinos can walk about 16 kilometers (9.9 miles) from Quezon City to Makati instead of riding crowded buses and trains. “It’s good for their health,” she said.

Then, she proposed that MRT, the light railway train system, designate some of their coaches as “business coaches” to encourage the filthy rich to  ride the train instead of driving their luxury cars and vans.

Now, Poe has unveiled a third proposal — the construction of cable cars along the entire stretch of EDSA as a viable, sky-high alternative to cars, buses or trains.

The lady Senator seems to be in Cloud 9 these days.

Duterte Invites US Senators Leahy, Durbin, Others To Visit Malacañang Palace

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A committee in the United States Senate has approved a proposal to prohibit the entry of Philippine government officials involved in the “politically-motivated” detention of Sen. Leila De Lima.

US Sen. Dick Durbin (D-ILL) lauded the US Senate’s appropriations committee for passing the amendment he proposed with Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT).

In retaliation, some Philippine Senators want to ban the U.S. Senators who approved the proposal from entering the Philippines.

But President Rodrigo Duterte has a different idea altogether. He has extended an invitation to Leahy, Durbin and other members of the U.S. Senate committee to visit Malacañang, the Philippine Presidential Palace.

Duterte however clarified that he cannot ensure that the visiting American Senators would be able to leave Malacañang or the Philippines after their visit.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) may need to build more jail cells next to that of Senator De Lima.

EDSA Traffic: From Choke Points To Checkpoints

MANILA, Philippines — A study by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) has so far uncovered more than 300 traffic choke points in Metro Manila, according to Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Danilo Lim. He urged the Senate Committee on Public Services to focus on these chokepoints in coming up with a long-lasting solution to the traffic nightmare on EDSA and other major thoroughfares.

In response, committee chair Senator Grace Poe proposed an innovative plan that would turn these choke points into check points.

Under Poe’s plan, giant television screens will be erected in each of the chokepoints to keep motorists entertained while stuck in these bottleneck areas. “That way, commuters’ anger and frustration will be kept ‘in check,’” the Senator said.

Poe then asked the major television networks to nominate shows or teleseryes that would be shown on these giant TV screens during heavy commute hours — for a fee of course.

Immediately, ABS-CBN nominated ‘Ang Probonsiyano’ as its  contribution to these checkpoints.

The Senate committee still needs to hear from the other TV networks.
