Filipinos Enjoy An Extra Day In Leap Year 2016

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – People around the world get to enjoy an extra day this year, a leap year. It happens once every four years when the month of February has a 29th day. Filipinos, however, get not one but two additional days this year. There is a February 30th in the Pinoy (slang for Filipino) calendar.

To celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon, SM, the largest shopping mall chain in the Philippines, has launched a special discount sale in all its oulets across the country.

Filipinos love to shop and are always on the lookout for bargains, so the malls and supermalls are expected to be packed with shoppers today, February 30. It also happens to be SM’s 30th anniversary.

Not Only Is Ted Cruz Not A Natural-born Citizen, He Is Also An Illegal Alien, Report Says

Ted Cruz, the illegal alien?

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau)-  Donald Trump must be celebrating in his Penthouse Suite at the Trump Towers tonight after an article published in a non-partisan website, Family Security Matters, claimed that not only is Senator Ted Cruz not a natural-born citizen but that he also entered the U.S. illegally in 1974.

Read the article HERE.

Trump, a known birther (think: Barack Obama), had hinted earlier that he has the standing to sue Cruz for being a presidential candidate who is not a natural-born citizen.

Cruz had always maintained that he is a U.S. citizen, born to an American mother and a Cuban father who is a Canadian citizen.

Now that Cruz seems to be out of his way, will Trump go after Marco Rubio next to solidify his road to The White House?

For the Republican Party, the political circus continues…

(Editors’ note: While it is The Adobo Chronicles’ policy to not use the term “illegal alien” to describe undocumented immigrants, we decided to use it this one time to point out the very misguided rhetoric that Republicans subscribe to when talking about non-U.S. citizens.)

Filipinos Have No Choice But To Drive Without Driver’s Licenses

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Everywhere you go, it is illegal to drive a motor vehicle without a government-issued driver’s license.  In the Philippines, the government is responsible for motorists driving without a license — card,  that is.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO), the counterpart of the U.S. Department of Motor Vehicles, has announced that by March this year, it will run out of the redesigned driver’s license cards, thanks to a third-party vendor it has contracted with to produce the plastics.

While drivers are issued temporary paper licenses,  many motorists complain that such licenses are often left in their trousers’ pocket to wash away with their laundry. Which means they have to go to LTO several times a year and deal with the long wait to get a replacement paper license.

This situation is brought to you by the Aquino administration’s Daang Matuwid (straight path) , a path full  of Filipinos driving without a (plastic) license!
