POOPMANIA: BEARDED MEN FILE CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT FOR DEFAMATION

imageSAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – A class-action lawsuit was filed in San Francisco’s Superior Court yesterday by hundreds of bearded men who claim they were unfairly defamed by a small study that concluded beards are full of fecal bacteria, a.k.a, poop.

According to a group of microbiologists in New Mexico, the rancid bacteria that beards collect could be putting owners’ health at risk. Microbiologist John Golobic, of Quest Diagnostics, swabbed a number of beards searching for bacteria for the study and found that some of the bacteria “are the kind of things that you find in feces.”

Quest Diagnostics was named in the lawsuit, along with all media companies and Internet sites that carried stories about the study.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is representing the bearded men.

“As a result of the poop stories, bearded men have experienced discrimination at work, in public places, even within their social circles,” the ACLU said.

Ello Kent told The Adobo Chronicles that he was barred from coming in close contact with patients at th San Francisco General Hospital where he works as a nurse. “Up until the poop stories went viral, I was getting compliments from my co-workers and patients about my ginger-colored beard,” he said.  “Now I can’t even do my job unless I agree to shave my beard.”

The bearded men are suing for an undisclosed amount.

If you feel you have been defamed because of your beard and want to be part of the class-action lawsuit, contact your local ACLU office.

ESQUIRE MAGAZINE NAMES WRONG ‘SEXIEST WOMAN ALIVE’

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Will the real sexiest woman alive  please step forward?

It’s that time of year when the Philippine edition of Esquire magazine announces its choice for ‘sexiest woman alive.’ But then the magazine goofed. It put the wrong woman on its cover.

Esquire even tried to have a little fun with its headline saying, “We named Karem Davila the Sexiest Woman Alive… This was her reaction.” The cover photo shows a laughing Davila, a television news anchor.

Now we know why.

Apparently, the magazine’s editorial board chose another broadcast journalist, the controversial Korina Sanchez, to be this year’s ‘Sexiest Woman Alive.’ When the assigned editor and photographer scheduled the photo shoot for the cover, they made an appointment with the wrong woman — Davila instead of Sanchez.

As the photo of Davila was being taken, she asked what the magazine cover story was about. That’s when they told her about the ‘sexiest woman alive’ title. She couldn’t contain her laughter, but it made for a great photograph.

Eventually, Esquire stopped the printing of the magazine and scheduled a photo shoot with the real sexiest woman alive — Sanchez.

Sanchez is the wife Interior and Local Governments Secretary Mar Roxas who is believed to be running for president in 2016. If Roxas wins, would Sanchez make the cover of Time magazine as the “Sexiest First Lady Alive?”

JOURNALISM: PHILIPPINE NEWSPAPER STARTS NEW TREND — HEADLINE-LESS FRONT PAGE

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – ‘Death Came Before Dawn,’ read the banner headline of a major daily newspaper, the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) last week. The story was about Filipina Mary Jane Veloso who was scheduled that day to be executed by the Indonesian government along with eight others convicted for drug-related crimes.

There was one big problem: Veloso’s execution was stayed at the 11th hour, and the newspaper received harsh criticism and major embarrassment for pre-empting Veloso’s death.

Fast forward to Monday, the morning after Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao lost by unanimous decision to American Floyd Mayweather in what was billed the ‘Fight of the Century.’

The PDI ran a full-page, view-from-behind photo showing Pacquiao acknowledging cheers from the crowd that witnessed the fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The same photograph showed Mayweather seemingly puzzled at the crowd’s reaction to his victory. The choice of photograph made it appear that Pacquiao won.

In an effort to save itself from yet another embarrassment, PDI skipped the headline. Instead, it  asked the readers to turn to Page  A17 in order to read the full story of Pacquiao’s disappointing loss to Mayweather.

Was it a wise move on the part of the respected newspaper?

Nah, we think PDI was in denial.  It had hoped to run a banner headline on its front page announcing: ‘Pacquiao Beats Mayweather!’
