SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  Academy Award-nominated actress Emma Stone will keynote the Asian American Journalists Association’s (AAJA) annual national convention to be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Embarcadero in San Francisco this week.

Stone was a last-minute replacement for San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, an Asian American, who backed out of the keynote address scheduled for Wednesday, August 12.

Lee’s office   sent an urgent message to AAJA President Paul Cheung saying that the mayor decided to skip the journalist convention because of recent allegations that implicate him in the same bribery scandal that entrapped California State Senator Leland Yee, another Asian American. The mayor wanted to keep a low profile for now.

Stone, who is a quarter Chinese and quarter Hawaiian, starred in the Sony Pictures film, “Aloha.”

Asian American advocacy groups, led by the Media Action Network for Asian Americans (MANAA) were very critical of Director Cameron Crowe for casting Stone as Allison Ng who is supposed to be quarter Chinese, quarter Hawaiian and half Swedish.

During her keynote address, Stone is expected to defend her casting in the ‘Aloha’ film on the grounds that aside from being a really good actress, her mixed heritage makes her qualified to play the role of Ng.

The Adobo Chronicles could not reach MANAA founder Guy Aoki for comment. Aoki is not expected to attend the AAJA convention because of ideological differences with AAJA’s leadership.

DONALD TRUMP DECLINES DEBATE OFFER BY NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – What is Donald Trump afraid of?

The Republican presidential candidate has declined an offer by NOW, the National Organization for Women, for a televised one-on-one debate with FOX News anchor Megyn Kelly to discuss women’s issues in America.

At last week’s FOX News Republican presidential debate,  Trump was asked by Kelly, who was one of the three moderators, about his past disparaging comments about women.   In response, Trump said he had no time for political correctness.

In post-debate tweets, the real estate mogul accused Kelly of being unfair and unprofessional about her questioning and said that the Fox News host had “blood coming out of her wherever.”

“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes,” Trump told CNN’s Don Lemon on Friday night. “Blood coming out of her wherever.”

NOW is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States, with hundreds of thousands of contributing members and more than 500 local and campus affiliates in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Responding to reporters’ questions about why he is declining the NOW invitation, Trump said, “Are you kidding me?  It was bad enough with one woman having her monthly period during the FOX News debate.  I’m not going to risk being in an auditorium full of women having their periods. I’m a businessman and I can easily recognize what would be a losing proposition.”

Trump’s “blood comment” has outraged a lot of women in America and the candidate’s biggest challenge right now is how to win back what he may have lost in terms of women’s votes.

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Megyn Kelly is suing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for harassment after that feisty exchange on live television in Thursday night’s GOP presidential debate.

The FOX News anchor, in one of the highlights of the evening, asked Trump to explain his often-disparaging comments about women.

“You’ve called women ‘fat pigs, dogs, slobs, disgusting animals,'” she said.

“Only Rosie O’Donnell,” Trump said, cutting Kelly’s question off mid-sentence.

“And honestly Megyn, if you don’t like it, I’m sorry,” he added. “I’ve been very nice to you, although I could probably maybe not be, based on the way you have treated me. ”

Kelly took that as a threat and said that she feared for her safety.

In a complaint filed in New York City’s superior court, Kelly sought for a restraining order to prevent Trump from coming within 50 feet of wherever is she. She is also asking the court to  ban the real estate mogul from using his Twitter account to further insult and criticize her.

In a series of late-night tweets, Trump blasted  Kelly for singling him out during the debate.

Meanwhile, Rosie O’Donnel is also reportedly considering filing a separate complaint against Trump for defamation of character.

Feminist attorney Gloria Allred has confirmed that she will be representing both Kelly and O’Donnel in the lawsuits on a pro-bono basis.  “It’s not about the money, she said, it’s about standing up for women.”
