MARK ZUCKERBERG UNVEILS NEW ‘REACTIONS’ BUTTONS, HAWAII EDITION

HONOLULU,  Hawaii (The Adobo Chronicles) – Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg today unveiled the new ‘Reactions’ buttons on Facebook which will start rolling out in Spain and Ireland.

The new buttons are Facebook’s response to users’ clamor that a ‘Dislike’ button be added to posts on the social media network.

Instead of a ‘Dislike’ button, Facebook decided in favor of other reactions that would express the user’s expression of love, anger, happiness and awe.

At the same time, Zuckerberg announced that starting next month, Facebook will add another button for its Hawaii special edition.  Facebook users living or visiting Hawaii will be able to respond to posts with a ‘shaka’ sign (also knownb as ‘hang loose) to express their spirit and feeling of Aloha.

Both Native Hawaiians and residents, along with tourists, praised Zuckerberg’s announcement.

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  Academy Award-nominated actress Emma Stone will keynote the Asian American Journalists Association’s (AAJA) annual national convention to be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Embarcadero in San Francisco this week.

Stone was a last-minute replacement for San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, an Asian American, who backed out of the keynote address scheduled for Wednesday, August 12.

Lee’s office   sent an urgent message to AAJA President Paul Cheung saying that the mayor decided to skip the journalist convention because of recent allegations that implicate him in the same bribery scandal that entrapped California State Senator Leland Yee, another Asian American. The mayor wanted to keep a low profile for now.

Stone, who is a quarter Chinese and quarter Hawaiian, starred in the Sony Pictures film, “Aloha.”

Asian American advocacy groups, led by the Media Action Network for Asian Americans (MANAA) were very critical of Director Cameron Crowe for casting Stone as Allison Ng who is supposed to be quarter Chinese, quarter Hawaiian and half Swedish.

During her keynote address, Stone is expected to defend her casting in the ‘Aloha’ film on the grounds that aside from being a really good actress, her mixed heritage makes her qualified to play the role of Ng.

The Adobo Chronicles could not reach MANAA founder Guy Aoki for comment. Aoki is not expected to attend the AAJA convention because of ideological differences with AAJA’s leadership.

HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles®) – Emma Stone became the first ever actress of Native Hawaiian descent to become a voter of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which hands out the annual Oscars.

The Academy announced its new invitations Friday, potentially adding 322 names to the voter list.

Becoming an Oscar voter is not automatic for Hollywood actors, directors, producers and others involved in film-making.  Voters have to be invited and invitees must accept.

Stone, many will recall, played Stephanie Ng, the quarter Native Hawaiian love interest of Bradley Cooper in the Sony Pictures film, “Aloha.”

The Adobo Chronicles® congratulates Stone as well as fellow invitee Ronaldo Del Carmen (Up,” “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron”) for this great honor.  Del Carmen is Filipino and co-director of the new Disney animation film “Inside Out.”
